If the steering is similar to the one on my 99 weedeater - i swapped a steering setup off a 85LT 12 parts tractor - the 99 had some plastic parts and allowed the gears to slip when steering, the 85LT 12 setup was practically a bolt in affair.

I have pics if you want to see them.

They make brass bushings, you may be able to just buy some at a hardware store.

I used copper couplings in mine as a 'quick fix' - the setup was all worn, so i used a regular wood spade bit ( yes for cutting holes in wood) - just big enough to set the slightly cut down copper bushings tightly , greased it all up and put it back together - it helped alot for a few years, then just wore out again.

The steering shaft attaches to the top of the "t" with a bolt - you have to remove the main gear setup that comes from the steering arm to get to it. Was a serious pain for me to do, besides having to pull the motor to access the whole thing.

I had a spare parts LT12 craftsman , so i just swapped the whole thing over - was literally bolt in, with a few minor mods.

I have pics of the swap if you want to see them.
