just got a peerles 820 brand new from the factory and would like to lock it. pulled it apart and there wasnt the open diff exposed spider gear setup i was expecting (probly should have done some more research before buying) it seems as though the spider gears are inside where the axles meet at the differential. im not sure how to pull the axles out though because the bearings at the end seem to be pressed in. do i unbolt the differential? i dont want to get any of those upgrade kits i just wanna weld poopie and get it over with... cheaply. anyone that has locked these before please help. sorry if i wassnt clear.

Bearings on ends of axle should slide off. They may be a little pressed on, with it being new.

Yes the spider gears are inside the diff gear, you can weld them, but they need to be extra clean, lot of hot weld, and welded straight, to prevent the axle from being misalinged/binding. I would weld the two spider gears inside to the pin they ride on, then weld the gears together. Make sure everything meshes together, should not have to force anything.

Here is a vid on how I did mine, not the same as your's, but you can see another way.

Light taps with a rubber hammer might work. Why do you want them off?

Just lift it straight up. Should all come out fine and go in fine.

Listen, i have a peerless 820, and mine was from an old murray gt garden tractor, 5th gear was broken, and the shifting was rigged, also it whined alot. But i still drove it, i know it sounds harsh but, when i took apart the axle to inspect it, everything was fine, my shifting was a little weird but it was ok. From experience, i'm definetly sure light taps with a rubber mallet won't do crap, i put a towel over mine and hit it with a real hammer, didn't break anything, especially the axles, i mean come on, their 1". Thos bearings should come off, and then unbolt the bull gear. Then do a normal lock as you would in a reg. transaxle, make sure everythings straight otherwise, it will grenade like mine did. It broke the bolts that hold it together, and blew out of the transaxle. When you weld it and put it back together, make sure that you tighten those bolts on TIGHT. Otherwise it'll do the same as mine, and a new transaxle costs alot of money. I consider putting threadlock in the bolts when you put them back in.
