PostSubject: Moose's Diesel Massey   Moose's Diesel Massey Icon_minitimeFebruary 2nd 2014, 7:59 pm

Gentleman... Behold!...

So way back when I was 13 (am 25) I received a little massey ferguson model 8 from my uncle shortly after my aunt died I took the engine apart tried to get it running again but it never worked out so I abandoned the project for a bit and let it sit in the back of the barn... Now with the help of some peeps off here and a lot of tender loving BFHing she will live again! Gone will be the puny 8 hp tecumseh engine gone is the peerless 120? tranny! In their places will be a peerless 855 chained to a b&s 18hp opposed beast. I am also going to give her a nice paint job for that show room shine also going to undercoat the wear areas such as the undercarriage and the inside of the fenders will be testing some paints and coatings.

I already had the engine out so little bit less work I had to do...

Today I worked on teardown and got the tranny out and inspected:

I think it is a 1200? Not sure if peerless made a 120 but there's some junk on the tag couldn't get it to come off and not about to take the tag off so I'll research...

Not a fan of the steering but maybe some heims will stiffen it up and might just make some spindles myself out of some trailer spindles

Moose's Diesel Massey P7pjOhTl
The attachment clutch lever on the right of the parking brake switch is going to be my locker lever for locking the differential not sure what Ill do for a gear selector yet... and yes it has a hood latch lever :p the giant tensioner thing in the middle will be getting tweaked it is a pretty heavy duty chunk of iron with some heavy duty bearings its going to stay but I am going to mount up a sprocket to it so I can have a chain coming off the engine and just have one belt to worry about since it is a pretty long drive to the tranny from the front.

Moose's Diesel Massey RZE135zl

Moose's Diesel Massey Poh7Q1i
Gonna dual these in the rear for a pretty neat setup she will be more of a logging implement than mudding but she will get mudded but she wont be winning any speed records lol

So to recap 18hp normal to low ratio since Ill be combining sprockets and pullies I may go from a 2" sprocket on engine and tensioner to a 4-5" pulley on the tranny and other side of the tensioner (it will be getting bolted in place and I will be adding a chain tensioner and clutch separate) I like the idea of keeping bigger pulleys in the rear so I can keep the belt from slipping. I will be welding some plates in to sturdy up the rear adding a winch and d rings and possibly adding a old craftsman plow in to the equation since I have it and it would work but it'll be massey colors :p

Just hoping it turns out well thanks for your support!

well I know I wont have to modify the smaller stuff like fenders and whathaveyou so I may tinker with those just to see how it sprays maybe test out that rustoleum converter/paint stuff I like to experiment lol but yeah will wait on the hood and stuff would suck to get a showroom shine ten have to cut it and mess it all up :/

Don't care about the tires, but the rims will be helpful. Remove them or leave them on, don't matter to me.

ok guys new plan! since another project I am working on is turning into a money hog I am going to cheap out on the tranny for the massey! I know it sucks Sad but the one I am swapping for should be a pretty good switch. I am going to run a peerless 2351 and attempt to lock it with a straight shaft or lockerblock well see how it goes once I get it lol. I know it isnt as cool as a selectable locking diff but my next project shall be... EPIC!

Website:
http://glenssurplus.com/proddetail.php?prod=Peerless-2351

I think john deere used them in the 110s?

I'm sure the 2300-series Peerless will serve you quite nicely. A manually selectable locker would be cool for sure, but I don't know how often you'd want to actually unlock it. I can tell you that it's a pretty rare occasion when I find myself wiching I could unlock. Very rare. Come to think of it, I've never thought about that...

Great little tractor. I dig older iron.

well bad news the tranny I was going to get is not in stock so no peerless 2351 :/ back to the craftsman tranny idea! Theres a couple on ebay for ~200$ dont like parting with the money but I have been in one of those trannys and love them!
