The only thing really messed up with this thing is the stupid clutch. If I could figure out something that would work better, I'd be in good shape. Slack side of the belt is on the top, and there isn't much room between the belt and the frame. Even if my current clutch was on the slack side, I don't think it has enough movement. I don't have any guides on it yet either, but it's got to lay on there pretty loose to disengage. I can hold the clutch in while it's in gear and drag the wheel with the brake across the concrete floor. What would be nice is if you could have some sort of disk style clutch or something right on the transmission. Can't mess with the engine side with the alternator pulley there. Yes, the alternator turns backwards too, but it does put out voltage, so that's ok except the fan on it blows in the other direction.
so since this build has been extended have u figured out the pulley ordeal yet
Take advantage of this time to fix all the little things (Paint on the numbers, paint the hood if desired etc.,) i just seem it now it looks amazing!!!!

Ok, I couldn't get the thing to run and the float kept sticking and leaking fuel all over my nice exhaust paint. Cleaned the carb, fixed the leak. Turns out the plug was fouled up from running it rich tryin to get flames to shoot from the exhaust. Fixed that too. Now it runs again. I'm really not sure what to do with the clutch. I have a couple ideas, but there isn't much room to make a decent setup without messing up everything I already did. Repainting an area isn't a big deal, but I don't want to cut huge holes in the frame or move the alternator. Slack side of the belt is on the top, and there isn't much room between the frame and the belt. I do have some lettering to do at some point, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to mess it up in case I had to weld something for the new clutch. Fixed the throttle too. Now it opens the throttle up all the way in stead of just half.
i wouldnt stress about messing it up none or paint we all know what it looks like now and if something happens and some paint is messed up no biggie i understand tho u want perfection but not all the time can it be that so dont stress lol i am really really wanting to see u out and tearing stuff up and driving im sure the rest of us is just as anxious as me lol

Well the yellow is just brushed on, so no big deal to fix a spot anyway. I want to see how fast it'll go with the gearing, so maybe I'll get it into high gear and go for a run down the driveway sometime soon. I'll get some footage eventually.

I was going to do a little test running and get some footage, but any trucks we or anyone has are currently broke down. So the sears is stuck at the shop. Otherwise, not really any progress, on this project at least.

Yeah, I finally got the mower home from the shop. So as soon as I get a chance, I'm going to get some video. Took it for a ride around and everything seems to work ok. Except the clutch of course. Slips under load, with the pulley on the wrong side of the belt, but it finally does disenguage some after the paint wore off the engine pulley and the belt got worn in a little. I'm going to try a stiffer clutch spring for now and see how it goes. Exhaust needs some window screen jammed inside to keep your ears in one piece though, but after the video maybe.

I finally got this thing back out and started working on it again. This weekend I took the lower half of the exhaust pipe off and tried to quiet the thing down a little. Stuffed some window screen into the very back of the megaphone. Welded a couple of big washers in front of the screen to act as baffles and keep the screen in place. Then I cut out some perforated steel to fit across the end of the megaphone to further baffle the sound...(Ok and to look cool). Spray painted it back up again, I think it looks kind of neat that way. Next is to build a new clutch. I took the old one off. I think I can make one that works without cutting my frame up too bad. I guess we'll see.
Tip the tractor on it's side and you can cook hot dogs on it.

This is what i'm thinking about the clutch. I'll have to make a bracket and bolt it to the engine block via some of those threaded holes you see there. Basicly, that's how it was on the stock engine. Belt should be loose enough to not drag, so I think some guides around the engine pulley should keep it from dragging when disengauged. Space is limited, so I'll have to make a pretty compact setup, but it should actually work this time. Otherwise I just have to finish hooking up the alternator and tighty up some of that wiring that just hangs along the frame.

Looks like it should work. Isn't there anymore space towards the trans-axle side?
The trouble is that the belt runs along right under the frame, so there isn't any room for the pulley when disengauged.
As far as the linkage goes, I think it'll be ok. Should be able to run a rod right down to where it was before without any major hassle. I don't know how or where i'm going to hook the spring though, might have to weld something somewhere. Not sure yet. I'll worry about that last.

Decided to mount the clutch directly to the frame instead of on the engine. Turns out there is enough room, so it should work out pretty good. Took the alternator out of the way and welded up some brackets.
Pulley needs to be as far towards the center of the tractor as possible to clear alternator belt.
