Take it apart! Just make sure if you're not used to doing this kind of thing to set everything out as you take it apart in a way that helps you remember how it goes back together. One thing to watch for is the little steel ball in the shifter assembly that tends to drop into the oil/grease when you split the case.

Take it apart... I've found that a piece of cardboard, with the bolt pattern drawn on is a great way to make sure you get the bolts back in the right holes (punch holes in the cardboard where the bolts are in the transfer case)

I use this method with head bolts on cars, and it always insures that you have the RIGHT bolt in the RIGHT hole.

well it is kind of weird because i was plowing with the mower (mtd service star) then all of the sudden it stopped moving. I then fired it up and the belt was spinning but it was slipping around the pulley on the trans axle so i think that maybe a spider gear or something is screwed up maybe but idk.

if it's a spider, it wont matter... you're gonna weld them solid anyway

pretty straight forward, just take the cover off and look for chunks of sintered steel...........

Typically there is a spring loaded ball, underneath a set screw, on top. Just don't loose the spring and ball when you take cover off.

Also, there is a bolt under the pulley that needs to come out. Pulley has to come off to see it.
