PostSubject: Fresh pully swap   Fresh pully swap Icon_minitimeNovember 24th 2014, 12:57 am

I have been working hard over the last week and have put about maybe 5-6 hours in so far. I had my Trans axle out and then got that all put back together with a 3.5 inch pulley on the back. The carb is back on and the deck is off. I only have one problem now how do I know what size belt needs to be put on there because the old one dosent fit now that there is a little pulley on.
If any one has any suggestions please let me know.

you can usually get a pretty accurate measurement with a piece of rope. find some close to the thickness of your belt, run it through the pully system and mark it off where it was sitting. then measure it. another thing is to do some math. say you had an 8 inch pully, and needed a 100 inch belt. your new pully is 4 inches, so you subtract 4 from your original belt, now you need a 96" belt. different numbers im sure, but same concept.

I never would have thought of subtracting. I used a ratchet strap from my bumper to pull the clutch back to where I wanted it and used a hay string. Just remember to get it tight. I don't even have a belt retainer and it stays on. Although I took a heavy rod and bent it u shape with one end shorter. Then welded it to a bracket I could bolt it on about 3 inches before  the original rear pulley. I have never had a belt fall of since.
