could be a problem with shift linkage

Bent shift fork, linkage isn't moving far enough. If it is skipping while in gear, check notches inside gear, and shift keys for wear.

it was skippping while in gear. I pulled the trans apart and all 4 shift keys are with normal wear and 5th gear is fine.

Bet your gear isn't fine. The notches on the inside of gear need to be Sharp, not rounded over at all.

YES! I was trying to remember where that vid was, yesterday, so I could respond here with the link.

Dude, you have some of the BEST vids on youtube. Wish I could subscribe a second time. LOL

By the way, when I take a transaxle apart, I take that allen stud out of there and fish out the ball and spring, before I take the case apart.
