PostSubject: How to make extension for transaxle pulley HELP??   How to make extension for transaxle pulley HELP?? Icon_minitimeWed Apr 16, 2014 8:47 am

I lifted my mower 26 inches, how can I make the transaxle pulley raised about a foot so that it's even with the drive pulley? Any ideas?

Yeah I've done it before, you take the center off of another pulley weld it to some heavy duty pipe or a shaft along with a pillow bearing up top then you mount the pulley on top

I have not done this. If I was GOING to, it would resemble this-
*remove pulley from transaxle
*install 5/8" Lovejoy or other design flexible shaft coupler, or even a U-joint.
*install length of 5/8" keyed shaft into upper half of coupler.
*install two pillow block or flange mount bearings onto shaft, and brace, structurally.
*install pulley on extension shaft

NOTE: the purpose of the coupler or U-joint is to take up minor misalignments, vibrations, shaft, and chassis flex- without breaking or bending the extension shaft or causing transaxle damage.

First we need to know if you have a welder and so on, just about 50 ways to do it.
