I just got a 5hp Briggs for my kart project and am gonna run a #35 3/4 shaft cent clutch but it seems the shaft is pretty long on this engine.  Do I need to shorten it or can the clutch just slide to where I need it?

you probably COULD run it like that, but it seems silly. I would cut it back maybe an inch, but be really careful to make it straight. you also gotta keep in mind- how far back do the threads run?

Use spacers to locate the clutch where you need it.
