T-Dub's Simplicity 738 Broadmoor Rally Project

True story. Yeah, twisted belts can be a savior when done correctly, but so much work to get it right, it's almost not worth it. Well, it was worth it for me because for the first time ever, I've had a transmission last longer than a piece of bubble gum.

'nother quick update.  

I sort of liked the way this machine articulated in the middle,...at first.  But it seems like everyone who rides it can't stand the wobbly feeling.  What's more, the clutch idler pulley grinds against the frame when it articulates too far, making a horrendous racket.

It works great for low speed crawling, but 2nd  and 3rd gear work gets a little scary.

So, I bolted it solid finally!!!  

There's a hole in the shaft (looks like ot's for a zerk fitting) that I drilled straight through with a 3/8" drill.  Installed a grade 8 shoulder bolt and shazam!  This think handles like a go-Kart compared to how it used to.  I would recommend to anyone who owns one of these BOLT IT TOGETHER TIGHT!  And never worry about wobbly handling or chucking belts again.

Neat Broadmoor. Just read through this whole thread again, love seeing these old Simplicities! I noticed that you swapped the clutch pedal over to the right hand side as opposed to the left as it normally is and was wondering how you done it or if you could provide photos?

I actually swapped the clutch pedal from the right side to the left, where it belongs. I guess they put it on the right for the ladies who only know how to drive automatics lol!

All I did was cut it off and weld it to the other side. The shaft goes through both sides of the frame, so it was wicked easy.

I would like to make another pedal on the right side to separate the clutch from the brake and have the brake on the right side. Rainy day activity...

Ah right. Did you get a pull start made up?

No Pull start yet. I actually need a new battery since I drained my old one so many times it won't hold a charge. My fault for using a briggs charging set up. So, now, even with a 64 amp alternator, it won't really hold much of a charge.

The battery box has room though, so I'm thinking I'll look into a small automotive battery that will fit instead of the crap they sell at TSC. SMH.

Love the build man! Looks pretty mean with those tires on there, and I bet that trans is indestructible.

Still haven't forgotten to bid some riding. Just haven't had time. I did install a new automotive battery and a different 63am alternator. The used and abused ones both died about the same time. Usually one will kill the other anyway if not operating correctly.
