Peerless 801 or MST 205? Empty
PostSubject: Peerless 801 or MST 205?   Peerless 801 or MST 205? Icon_minitimeFebruary 14th 2015, 8:29 am

I'm sure most of you know that I've entered the 2015 build off and I'm making a mud/utility tractor.
I originally was going to use a Peerless MST205 but now I think I could get my hands on a Peerless 801 so I wondering what one is more heavy duty/better?

I'm pretty sure fearlessfront uses a 205 and he said he's used it for years but I think he only runs 20x8 inch tires. I don't know about the 801 could be stronger but I don't know by how much becuase the 820 is the only one I know of with 1inch axles besides like the horizontal input transmission

I would sooner use the MST transaxle.

I honestly think the 800 series is a bit physically stronger. I like the cast iron diff carrier, and the dimensions of the gears. However, the MST has benefits, too. Gear-drive reverse, and factory oil-lube.

Your call.

what do you mean a diff carrier? Is that like the 820s? We're the differential gears are enclosed? If that's the case I would probably go with the 800 series also lol

On an MST or 900 series (and many others) the bull (ring) gear and differential assembly just kinda floats in the bearing bores of the case. About as cheap as they possibly could have managed.

In the 800 (and 600 and others) the differential assembly includes a cast iron carrier to hold it all together, and it rides on bronze bushings. Much beefier.

Could I swap the 801 diff carrier into the 205?
