The Murray with Mow name.

Gday to all, just wanted to share some of my build I am currently working on, opinions are appreciated along the way as this is my first build and new to the mower/ tractor scene. As the title suggests it has MOW name as yet, but time will tell me what to call her I am sure. Mods so far include steering modded to suit the Suzuki quad bike front end fitted to it and rear hubs made to suit the transaxle, it has a pulley swap front and rear with some chassis bracing and more to come, plenty more pictures to come also, to see the build in motion feel free to check out my you tube channel in the link below, cheers to all and have a great day.

Nice! Likin' the suspension, that setup would be great for a fast trail riding machine. What kinda transaxle is underneath it? Looks like the shifter is missing?

Looks good. I might try to slide the engine back to fill in that gap?

yeah the shifter was missing when I got it, but will relocate it to the other side being Australian it feels foreign where it is and probably forward a bit too not sure on that yet, the transaxle is a peerless not sure on model etc, will post a pic of it shortly and get some opinions, Cheers TheBeal I was toying with the idea of mid mounting the engine, that decision will be made when I decide what donk I'm running, that's a 12hp single I am trying to source a 18hp oppy twin at the moment, also fitting a larger fuel tank, marine battery, winch, air compressor, alternator, catch can, snorkel, etc etc, so will see if I end up with the room and what happens there.

certainly do, it is looking like the front bumper from the quad will look the goods with a bit of a mod here and there, will get some pics of that up too sitting in place for some opinions on it. As for the speed, I am hoping for a little more speed than torque but really need a little of both, I have made 2 rear pulleys for it so can play with it a little, I have a fair amount of property to cover on it hence the bigger battery and fuel capacity etc.

Cheers Mightyraze, here's a couple of views of the quad bumper I have leaning roughly where it would go.

heres the tranny I have in it, some help with ID and what to do with it would be great, as I have Mow idea being a newbie. The only thing done so far is the pulley swap which measures in at 5 inches outside diameter which I have matched up to a 5 1/2 inch drive pulley, cheers.

quick look at the steering conversion done to match up to the front end.

The shaft next to the steering is the old mower deck drop lever which I have changed the rotation of and will hook up to the tranny brake for a park brake, will have the hydraulic drums on the front and maybe some discs on the rear yet.

I like the look of that bumper there, looks pretty mean. The direct steering setup looks pretty good as well! There should be an ID tag on the trans somewhere near the brake caliper I think. But it kinda looks like a Peerless 801 series transaxle to me.

made up the ladder bars yesterday from some of the old quadbike frame, hopefully have these tacked in today. They will extend from the quad front end back to the chassis cross member pictured.

so I had a little mess around with engine placement with an old 12.5 opposed twin I have lying around, seems to me it would work a lot better with my plans to mount it backwards, this way the carby sits right under where I want to mount my air box for the snorkel, (less plumbing) and the front of the area of the tractor now has room to mount the larger battery planned for it and also frees up room to build the front shock mounts, the exhaust will route better for my plans and the whole engine clears the bonnet better this way around and it also has freed a space to do my alternator conversion too. win win unless someone tells me it cant be done, from what I can see it should work though. chime in with your thoughts as I have said before newbie needing some guidance, lol.

from the looks of things it's a peerless 930, not sure what can be done with it or whether to lock yet, thinking of getting it going and driving it first, with the wider track and increased speed, larger tyres etc etc, I am thinking it might do well enough to leave it alone for now.

With those big wide tires, a Doc locker would probably help the durability. Those separate axle shafts put a lot of strain on the case because they act as levers.

I would have thought the non-locked would be less stressed? I've only been in this game a couple years, so I am still learning!

less stressed to a point. Once you add wide tires and ride it harsh the axle shafts are basically trying to snap the case in half with the forces put on them

the case will be built within a frame to add strength and act as a bash guard also with ladder bars going back to the centre of the chassis to the cross member already fitted and will have outer bearings added for additional strength to the outer parts of the shafts. that certainly makes sense in both cases though, one instance it's the gears we are stressing and in the other case it's the shafts, just beef up as much as possible I am finding is the answer to everything, lol

Gday to all, LED headlights showed up in the post last week also, ebay specials, $30 for the pair delivered 120 watts each, the only thing I had to do was pull one apart to reverse the wiring in it so they were a left and right pair as they are actually sold as work lights. They should do the job perfectly by the looks after a bit of cutting and filing on the surround.

I think I can see your point with these lighter transmissions. They wouldn't be up for that.
