Fozzy locking

Anyone have any "LONG TERM" experience with this style of locking? I am seriously thinking of this style locking on my next project. Anyone bust their transmission or snap off teeth inside? I've done some google searches and I have seen where people have done it, but not any "casualties" so to speak. I usually find a casualty or two when I search. Only in Jeeping forums have I seen failure. If it seems to work on jeeps, it should be good on a lawn tractor. LOL

@Doug, if I remember right, you have a fozzy locked 820? How has that gone? The other members that I have seen with a fozzy seems to have gone with the wind.

Other thoughts?

I know Rich fozzy locked his 820, and he swears by it. I would think the key would be to make sure there is enough of a beam to make sure the gears dont try and climb up onto the weld. That would be a disaster most likely.

I did, @stretch44875 has it now. But from my experience with it, its a great way to lock without any long term effects. If it were to blow, the carrier would retain all pieces. If you dont like it, you just get new gears.

I agree with Doug, plus you can still completely dis-assembled it if need be. If you weld it all together you cant take it apart obviously haha.

I'd like to try this method of locking the rear end but I'd be worried that it'd walk over the weld. If you do decide to go ahead and do it that way I'd like to see the finished product

You have to weld the gears flush. There is a fozzy lock thread around here somewhere, but I think most of the pictures were eaten.

Heres the set I did. Pretty sure I prettied them up more after this and didnt take pictures.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger for another set of gears to modify. See how it goes.

Worst that could happen with a fozzy(from my thinking) is one of the smaller spider teeth snapping off. Even then, it'd probably still be locked, just with some more slop in the locker. My locker has held up no problems, about a year now. Meant to open it up and see what it looked like when I had my 820 apart, never got to it though.

Note; I would only trust this method on a transaxle with a differential carrier. I could see you busting the sides out of the differential area of a MST or 900 series case if you did a fozzy with one of those. The cast aluminum probably wouldn't hold up to the gears trying to walk up over the welds

That was my thought too.
