I did a carb swap on the mower today. I put the carb that was on the mud mower on it because I know it works and I thought that it would solve the problem. Sure enough with my luck it didn't, so then I tried bypassing my safety switches by following what I did on the race mower. When I started it back up after that, It just turned over a bunch and didn't start. Now my stupid battery is dead because it doesn't charge well and only has enough juice for a few starts. Tomorrow I will try again when its not dark.

It runs so good now after a few days of work. Now I gotta lock it and swap tires because they leak pretty bad.

No, after swapping out the coil, carb and buying a new spark plug. i figured out it was just another faulty electrical system because I had recently deleted all the safety switches. |

Ropmed the old grey last weekend and this weekend for a little more than an hour. So fun going crazy on this thing even if it's stock. I need to lock this thing pretty bad and do a tire swap sometime. Today I got it stuck in the mud and all four tires were completely emerged. I also drove it into a creek and blew the bead right of the tire so I had to run home and steal the tire off the other craftsman.

If you're on a budget I'd just keep an eye out for some atv tires that will fit your rear rims. They look like 8" and you have plenty of clearance under those fenders for bigger tires.

I will keep an eye out for Atv tires, these ones don't hold air very well anyways.

Have you had your rear wheels off yet? I hope they are not stuck to the axle.

No I haven't Mighty. But I don't see why they would. This mowers was fairly well maintained and the front wheel still had a bunch of grease when I took it off, Also, there is still the caps on so water can't get in as easy. But we will see when I lock the diff.

That should do great, I love Craftsmans! You can mud them stock and they do pretty good! All you need to make them awesome is ATV tires, or just cut the turfs.

And lock it! I was amazed on what a difference the locked diff did when I locked my Husqvarna LT130. They are pretty much a craftsman. I am also surprised on how good the spicers do despite all the hate they get. I was bottoming it out, spinning my tires in 5th gear in the mud, doing mini burnouts and rocking it back an forward and no damage what so ever.

Nah, but it makes your tranny much stronger for pulley swaps, larger tires, etc.

Oh ok thanks! I didnt know that. I thought it was just for high speeds so it doesn't burn.

No, it keeps friction down better than grease. Also, when you pulley swap it, unless you do an oil swap, it makes all kinds of weird noises its not supposed to. Grease also has a habit of getting packed into the corners and becoming ineffective.

Yeah especially at high speeds it just pushes it out of the way.

That's the nice thing about some of the older ones like my 600s is they're already oil filled. Way better than grease. MST series transaxles are also oil filled i believe.

And I get nothing but spicers. To be honest I don't really have a problem with them though.

No, I have mud lites. I wanted to leave my diff open because we have some really tight trails here, so tight that in some spots both tires rub on the trees. Obviously, I need a good turn radius for that.

| Spicer gearboxes are pretty good. Spicer transaxles are ok, but you gotta be kinda gentle with em, from what I've seen.
The steering radius on Mutt didnt change much with the diff lock, but she's a heavy tractor. Don't know what itd be like on a lighter one. |
