Yeah, I figured it would be a lot of work. Hadn't thought about the structural integrity of the rod and the crank. Like I said, it is a crazy idea.  I think I'll keep it gas, but if I get the chance to buy a diesel, I will.
Also, if you can convert a vertical shaft to a horizontal shaft, how come people don't convert a horizontal to a vertical?

Because vertical shaft engines are easy to get, while horizontal shafts arent

Not always. You can buy a horizontal shaft diesel engine off of Ebay, but you can't buy a vertical shaft diesel.

Yeah I know, but it was an example. There are also a lot of horizontal shaft engines on Craigslist, and only a couple of vertical.

A vertical shaft V-twin diesel would be wicked to have.

Craftsman LT1000 "NellyBelle" - Page 7 Vertic10

But you'd wanna mate it up to a pretty tough transaxle I would think. Thing would probably have crazy torque.

Would It be possible to mount a good 90 deg. gear box to a pulley to the engine and then have the other end of the gear box have another pulley going to a cast iron horizontal shaft transmission?

The " Snapp Dragin might have three wheels , if I get ahold of the dirtbike/ minibike frame . I just want some kind of light weight front end in order to pop insane wheelies. I am considering using the foote and a solid rear axle if I think the foote is strong enough for 25 ish mph and mud tires.

Muck, it might be possible but would be easier to chain drive the RAGB from the engine . i was trying to think of a way to do that but it would be more complex to have a direct hook up

No I mean with a vertical shaft engine. You would have to run pulleys from the engine.

Did some fab work on NellyBelle.  Super excited!!!
(Don't worry, I'm not disqualifying myself for doing too much work before the build off, everything is literally sitting there.  It's not bolted down.)

Craftsman LT1000 "NellyBelle" - Page 7 20180133
Super happy with it! The seat is like 4 inches lower than it was stock, that's the main thing I hated about it before. Cannot wait to start work for the build off.

Looks good ! .

Muckmudd, yeah thats what i was saying would be easier than a direct coupler to the engine, you could belt drive the right angle gearbox then run a chain or belt to the tranny .or run a chain drive to the engine and belt to tranny

I would do belt to RAGB and chain to transaxle. That way when you clutch the RAGB isn’t still spinning. More wear on the box and more load on the starter to get it going

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking CQ. Might be fun to try some time. Maybe if I end up finding a transmission for sale without the rest of the mower because it would be a shame to take it out and put it in a craftsman.
