PostSubject: Biggasmowers "Muckraker" [2018 Build-Off Entry]   Thu Mar 08, 2018 8:56 pm

Well I really shouldn't but I might as well because the work on it will happen anyway.

Here is my second build off entry. 92 Craftsman lt 4000 off road /utility build named "Muckraker".

My plans are to pulley swap it , put the Briggs oppossed in it, new front tires of same size but better off road tread, paint it , give it a rack, front and back bumpers ,better towing hitch, storage, and have the possibility for yard work but a subdued off road machine for my friends to ride that doesn't go to fast . I will keep the rear tires as they hold air and have reasonable tread pattern and depth. Mabye some frame strenghening and skid plates if I get motivated to do that.

Even tho it just got approvted........ the oppy is mounted, it jas a rear storage "rack" that needs more improvement, and the entire fuel system needs to be cleaned out as it keep a on clogging my fuel filter nd the carb is screwed up. Currently parked in the woods as it stopped running a long way from home and it's so dirty I couldn't get bybwoth just a jet cleaning.

Well I think I figured out whybthe carb was clogged..... the crank case breather tube fell off of the air box and let a bunch of junk in the carb.

Well yes I just did! The carb had lots of rubber pieces and grass in it. Must have been from a dirty fuel line. It's now running great on zero choke! Got it back and had a slight detour through some mud on the road...
man I have the projects..... I need two transaxles, or Three would be nice, as one of the mtds vari drive system is mucked up, or just like 6 or 7 transaxles to tide me over for a while

It runs good now. Made a throttle cable so I can idle it down now . The mowing parts are going to be removed as I got a Mtd mowing and running well . (All it took was a new belt, new front tire,[Still needs a rear tire] un-bent and welded up the screwed up drag link, cleaned the nasty gunk out of the carb, new fuel cable, pressure washed, and it mows!!!! ) the lt 4000 still needs to have some proper wiring done and i found some large cracked that were previously welded and broke again by the axle housing on the frame.

Well now that it's not going to mow the yard it might get some bigger paws. I really like the hood and body style, so it might replace the Murray for off road use. Not sure what to do with the Murray as I have a lot of work on it and I am pretty tires of Murray junk. Oh there might be a mtd project coming up as I am parting it out to keep all of the mowing parts as spare for the mowing mower so I will have a frame and u still have the foote and a 12 hp flatty to put on it

oops .  There was supposed to be a period behind the Murray part. I am only using the ayp, mtd,rer frames now.
Hauled some junk from the garage to my mower hoarding yard and then brought up the red mtd to part out. I have two functioning mowers now and 2 that run but just need new trannys and then 2 that need clutches and steering. There are plans for the mtds frame as a junk off roader for my friends to drive after I pull all of the usable mowing parts and vari drive off and sell the engine to cover some costs of buying them.

So I got my lovely sister to drag the little old Murray RER frame and drop it on the mower trailer that's been hooked up to the muckraker for a week or so and then awhile latter I went out to drive it up to the house so I could start parting it up a bit and realized my abs really didn't like the idea of pull starting the thing. So I am waiting for another person to wonder by to start it for me lol

It just went pop while I was towing the Murray up to the garage.

RIP....that a spicer?

You’re always saying how you need transaxles. If you paid for shipping and to buy them, I’d pull a few from the junkyard near me, tag em with the number of speeds and what it’s out of if you care, and send em to you.

I know off the top of my head there are a few peerless 900 series, dunno if it’s a 930 920 or some of each, couple 801s, TON of FNRs like anyone needs those lol, and a 6 speed spicer. Spicer would be good to kick around as a backup but the guy would probably cut me a deal on a bunch of em. The more I get the cheaper it’ll all be. Interested? They run about 50 bucks each for the peerlesses

I can't believe it just broke like that.  Didn't seem like you were stressing it very much at the time.

I do need transaxles,  I might be interested but the shipping could be pretty bad. If you could get them for cheaper I would defiantly be interested.(I need two peerlesses for the lt 4000's and a spicer or peerless for a backup or to put on the Murray in case you were wondering lol)

Thanks! I might be able to get around 150 bucks if I sell an engine to a guy so that would go towards the trannys. The more the merrier right? Lol
