I might do that, we'll see.

Yeah, that's the plan, but as I stated above, the chain hook won't fit in the bottom hole.

I plan to.

So I think the front belt is the wrong size, it keeps throwing the rear belt, and I don't have much tension on it, the tensioner is maxed out, and it won't turn the tires in 3rd or 4th gear.  The front belt is too small, I knew that, I only have one vari drive speed (which happens to be fastest), so I should get a 40 later, instead of a 42.

I also need to bypass the low oil cutoff, because whenever the engine is not level, it stalls out, even coasting downhill.  But when I unplug the wire going to ground, it doesn't do it anymore.

Sounds like you need to dial in your belt sizes.  Do you think you can get the vari drive working again with the right belt sizes?

I think you have to disconnect that box that is slightly above the oil sensor to bypass that.  You do have enough oil right? lol!

Yes I have enough oil lol.  Yeah, I did that, and now the switch doesn't work anymore either.  So until I rewire it directly from the coil-switch-ground I am pulling back on the governor arm to shut it off.  It'll be fine.

Got the right belt:

For my reference: 39".

Took her for a ride!

[Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 15 20181011

Went down my "mud trail", its literally 300 feet of nothing but mud, and it gets pretty bad in some parts.

[Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 15 20181013

When I came back later that puddle had about 3x that much water in it, and you are climbing a 45* hill halfway through it.  She went through it like a champ.  The vari drive now works great, and in 4th gear on the trans and 1st on the vari-drive at about 3/4 throttle (what I typically run the engine at), it goes 4 mph with lots of torque.  In 4th gear on the trans and 7th on the vari-drive at full throttle it will do a surprising 15 mph!!

I later got it up to 16, but forgot to screenshot it.  I think if I messed with the governor a bit I could get more, but steering it is very sketchy.  Toed out, quite a bit of play, and like 4.5 turns lock to lock.  You're like turning the wheel the entire time just to make small adjustments.  Going to try to tighten that up a bit.

Today I got that annoying crooked tow hitch off.

Surprisingly good welds for being so crooked.

[Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 15 20181015

Cleaned that up a bit.

After paint:

Going to cover up those ugly plasma cutter/torch holes up with this contemporary 1975 motorcycle license plate I found in a pasture....  scratch

[Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 15 20181019

Can't decide if I should leave the patina, or paint it to match the rest of the build.

The rust on the seat pan was bothering me, so I painted it black again.

Going to repaint the seat springs soon, but I decided to save that for another day.

[Complete] John Deere 110 "Sub-Compact Tractor" Build [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 15 20181022

The seat is neat on this, you can slide it forward or backward about 6" just by pulling on a spring-loaded pin and sliding it the desired direction, then let go of the pin and it locks into place.  Not necessary but convenient.

Well, this rig is almost done. Couple of kinks and then I'll start filming for the build off vid.

Ha.

Was out driving it yesterday having a grand old time, things were going great, then the engine started sputtering real wierd.  About 200 feet later I started going up a bit of a hill and the engine stalled and wouldn't start again till I put the choke on.  Then it would start and run great until I turned the choke off.  So I drove it home half choked.  It only sat for 4 days, and there is a fuel filter on it.  I'm going to drop the bowl later and see what's up.

Need to start filming for the build off video too.  All this rain is kinda putting a wrench in my gears of progress.

Okay, so I dropped the bowl, it was dirty, so I cleaned it up, reinstalled it, and took it for a ride.  Got 20 feet and the thing died like I hit the kill switch.  It has no spark and I can't figure out why not.

Well I don't have any that will thread into the head, otherwise I'd steal one off the mower.

actually, will the high voltage cable arch to the frame if you disconnect it from the plug entirely?

Hmm, something to do with the wiring for the low oil switch?

a quick test for that wold be is unplug that master kill wire to your magneto and see if you get spark then, if no, you might be having magneto trouble.

That was what I was leaning towards, if kill wire is off and you are not getting spark it is either the magneto or plug. I don't know anything about that engine but that's what I think. Also just put any plug from any other tractor on it if you are testing & hold against the block. (don't light your leg on fire like I did.)
