Got a new thing today. Craftsman GT6k, sans engine. Something to waste my new abundance of scrap steel on.
Craftsman GT6K 20181027

Craftsman GT6K 20181028
Electrolux style 633, not especially excited about it but it's not that bad of a trans. Shifts a bit hard but I think that's just a good seal.
Craftsman GT6K 20181029
Has the nice 5 lug hubs
Craftsman GT6K 20181030
Oh and a hood without a grille that probably won't get put back on (thinking about the series II snapper lt16 that was meant for the lt18rs project)
Craftsman GT6K 20181031

Plans:
-Horizontal swap. No belt twist.
-Use original steering after replacing bushings and rewelding and grinding teeth
-Reinforce frame. Plenty of room for that I think.
-Mutt's old bright green bumper for now
-Mod old front axle mount or build a new one. Plan to keep the cast iron front axle, but could use some help with caster and the bushings
-Not sure what's gonna happen with the front tires for now. I think I can make them hold air
-For now the back tires will just have tire chains

Yeah, better do mono leaves on the front and a rack and pinion too. lol!

Looks pretty neat. Looks like that ol' AYP trans has a couple bad axle seals though? Either way, should be a cool build.

Put another wheel on the one side. Back tires don't hold air for more than a few minutes and the left front maybe an hour

Ew
Craftsman GT6K 20181033

Weird steering, seems ok besides the stripped teeth and bad bushings. I might just do new bushings and it'll be ok.

Seems like a good foundation to start with.  I like how Mutt's old hood looks on it.

I mean some big horizontal twin is what I'm shooting for but for now I'd be satisfied with a gx390. Maybe a 212 predator too.

Found a plate to mount the engine to, working on cutting it to fit now. Gonna weld it on, don't think I have a need to take it off.

I also pulled out most of what was left of the deck hardware and put a knob i found on the range selector lol

Pulled the steering gear out, it's corroded pretty bad and the teeth are rolled over from not engaging fully. Thinking on improvements ATM. Forgot to get pics for that.

Traded some rims for a different set of front tires that held air. I also swapped a set of turfs on the back that hold air(for longer).

Looked at putting duallies on. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself

You don’t seem like a dually guy to me. Although wouldn’t be a bad feature on a tractor that pulls heavy trailers around all the time.

Hmmm. I'm not positive, but I think you can fix those steering setup with a rack and pinion. Or so I've heard anyway.

Did I already make that joke....? Oh I did. Well whatever, my point still stands. lol!

The steering on the gt6000 frame I got was pretty good I thought. Haven't used it, alomsng with many other random parts I was thinking I needed, but it's good for some future project. Duallys would defiantly be a neat feature, and dually aggs would be even better. A horizontal oppy would sit nicely in there, man that would rip

Brought the steering to school, drilled the holes out to 15/16" and started making some bushings. Only had hex stock to make the bushings so that's what I'm using.
