Thanks. The older tend to be better, but craftsman is pretty descent. Mine so far is pretty tough. The stock front uses cheap plastic no count bushings so swapped a golf cart axle on.

There's no need to find plastic for them as they didn't even use plastic on the older ones. Smile

As some of you know, I'm in the process of sorta over hauling my tractor. This will involve: Fixing the bad rear hubs, fix the exhaust pipe that I had to cut, Convert the steering to direct steer, Fix the front axle mount, add some swivel to the front axle, add shocks maybe, give the engine a tune up, change the throttle, and finally the worst part, fix and redo the wiring. A huge list I know, but it's got to be done. So far, I've completed:Rear hubs are fixed and wheels mounted, and I've made the universal joint for the steering(bout half way done). I have some pics of the hubs to share.

Thanks man. A small update that might turn into a cloud of dust. I found a Kohler 18.5hp twin on Craigslist for $300. I'm talking with the guy and he says he's willing to trade my 17HP briggs OHV and a little cash for his twin. Like I said, don't know if this will work out yet. We'll see.

As this ongoing saga always seems to go, the deal fell through. Guy was a bit of a snot head. Anyway, I've made some good progress. I got the steering mostly finished. Just have to get a couple bolts for the u joint. Fixed the axle by adding some shimming to make it fit in the stock axle bracket. I'm going to put a little more bracing on it later. Hooked the steering linkage and was surprised in a good way and a bad way. The good: There is no slop at all. Just a tad of play in the universal joint. Better bolts should fix that. The bad i never expected: It steers backwards. Shocked Turn it right, it goes left. I'm going to either learn to deal with it backwards ,or turn the axle around and fab a new steering rod. The later I'll most likely do.

Holy smokes! 8029 views! Well guys, I've made deal with my bro. The deal was, I'd make him a bullet proof Off road pedal car in return for $100 and an ATV frame he bought from me a while back. I thought you guys might like to see the progress of the pedal car, so I'll be starting a build thread in a little. This will be using my tractor's old front axle. Also will be using my 4 front turf tires I have laying around. So, I have $100 and an ATV frame with 4 point suspension, all shocks, complete steering. Don't know if i'll use it on the tractor or not.

I might, but not in the near future. I have a gator roll bar I might use someday. Right now, I've shoved the tractor to another bay and am going to forget it right now I'm so bummed out with it. The direct steering was a utter fail. No I put the stock steering back on. I figured it be best to just park it and give it a break for a spell. I do have the ATV frame I might use on the front end. Neutral My focus is now on this pedal car that my bro wants. Once that's done, I'm give the tractor another shot.

OK I'm seriously considering putting this 4 point suspension and steering on my tractor. I know there is a handful of guys who have done this, but they're hidden all through the builds section. I'm asking if the folks who did this could post some pictures or a link to some pictures of their front suspension and steering setup. I'm going to need so reference on this.

I've looked through that thread and did get some ideas. Thanks. But I wish I could see how you did the steering. I need some reference pictures for the steering as well. Plus, I'd still like to keep the vertical engine. I might have to either move it back, or turn it around to make room.

I used the stock ATV tie rods, and steering column.

I cut the steering column down and welded a 3/4" piece of round bar into it its connected to a universal joint then to another piece of 3/4" shaft, another u-joint, and a stub shaft to the steering wheel.

I had to adjust the angles to clear the engine

I don't have any real pics of the setup at the moment, but it should be going together in a few days.

Well, the engine finally had enough. It has been on the edge lately and has run terrible at times. It was idling fine and all the sudden, it slowed down really slow and then quit (right when I needed the tractor the most). No matter how hard I tried, it would not fire. So I let it sit for 30 Min. Upon return I found a stunning sight. There was fuel overflowing out of the air filter housing! Needless to say, the tractor is once again, Down. I've got the carb all apart for a good cleaning. However, I've got a neat little twist of a surprise up my sleeve. Wink This Monday, if all goes planned, I'm going to have one humdinger of a surprise for the tractor. Stay tuned. Things just might get bumped up a notch. Smile
