| Hi, I have a 12.5 HP B&S engine. I decided to replace the fuel hose and filter. I did so, and put some gas into it, and then, BOOM!!! Gas starts to puke out of the exhaust port (I have no muffler on it) when I try to turn it over. Am I correct to assume that the float in the carb is not seating? It is sitting in my yard leaking gas out of the exhaust right now. Thanks | |

| Get a fuel shutoff valve. You should have one on everything without a pump. Head Forum Administrator ** Chat Moderator ** Facebook Page AdminATLTF Facebook Page ** Chatbox ** How To Upload Pictures

| Have you solved this yet?
If not, look to the float needle and seat in the carb. Odds are good it's not sealing, and flooding the cylinder. A shutoff is a good idea, and should be used even with the problem fixed.
And remember- If the above WAS the problem- change your oil immediately! The fuel gets past the rings and into the crankcase pretty quickly. | |

| I have not tried to fix it yet, I am thinking of replacing that motor with a 19 HP engine. The 12.5 has no exhaust, and it has turned the carb black. It has not run right since I got it. I might swap it. | |

| there is 1 more thing to consider, although far less likely. Your throttle 'butterfly' is not closing down at low throttle positions, thus letting fuel through in volume. I had a craftsman powered by a kohler 13 ohv do this, only to find out after everything else something was jammed into the carb and had prevented the valve from closing properly.
Still, I believe the needle and seat may be the problem as well... just the above commentary should be considered... |
