All i see is that if you put more blocks as close as possible to the rims then theres no need for a center support. hydros can pull a good abount so upping the gearing souldnt hurt it that much. I think going from max speed to stop (decending speed) will be intrusting.

Agreed this is when the gear ratio will not be in my favor

try sliding the axle as far forward as you can, take a link out, then pull the axle back as far as you can. good job so far!

Could use a half link. Do you have any adjustment built into the rear axle to tighten chain?

You could elongate the pillow block bolt holes, probably wouldn't take much.

yes the pillow blocks have slide holes about 1/2 inch of play. I went back after the video and relized I had drilled the holes on one side a 1/4 off to the front. I redrilled and remounted them. Going to need an idler pulley latter but for testing it out this will work.

This is a great build. A long overdue experiment as well. Seems to me that it should work. I don't think there's a better way really.  cheers

The multiplied load on the output of the hydro may create more heat. The hydro will be working harder (like going uphill in both directions). Maybe doubling up on the fan to make it more efficient and adding a cold air intake duct would help if needed.

the chain is going to stretch anyway, so just test it and keep an eye on it. Moving the pillow blocks in slots will work, but the pull from the chain may yank the axle back to the loose position. I think I'd stack washers or spacer plates under the pillow blocks to adjust the chain. That way you could keep the bolt holes instead of slots.

Just thinking out loud here. Love the build!  Wink Cool

Nice Grill! Looks like it's pulling in cold air? You should reverse the fan for the winter and run it as a cab heater. In the summer you can cook lunch on the way to the mud!  Laughing cheers

I suspect he lost too much torque for hills and mud, going from such a large sprocket to a small one.

Definitely not a good application if you're trying to conquer a hill  Razz
