similar tire size to 4.80x4x8

i never really understood how this tire is measured, but its 4.80x4x8. i am looking to get new tires for the front of my tractor, probably snow hogs. however, i want to get some wider ones. i know that the width is 4, and the bead is 8, but what is the 4.80 denoting? any input is appreciated. same for size recommendations

I think the 4.8 is some sort of diameter ratio I believe it means it is about a foot (no idea how 4.8 is relative to a foot) you could probably just relplace it with something in the 13-15 range I think the craftsman tires are like 18s

4.8" section width at widestt point in sidewall (not tread) 4" section height from road to rim edge. With section height x2 plus 8" rim, works out to 16" tall. Closest equivalent in turf sizing would be 16x5-8. 16x6.50-8 would fit those rims but bulge a little.

doc is somewhat right, the 4.80x4x8 tires are more to 18" tall, 16" is the modern stock front tires, I know that mine are much bigger than stock.

Don't forget, grasshopper... Actual Tire sizes are almost NEVER the published size. I gave you the pure math. You need a tape measure. Doc IS right, you just need to keep in mind that theory and practice are two different things. You don't believe published HP values too, do you? LOL
