Talk - Lets talk about spark plugs Empty
PostSubject: Lets talk about spark plugs   Talk - Lets talk about spark plugs Icon_minitimeApril 16th 2014, 3:29 pm

alright guys, so i know there is already a spark plug thread floating around on here, but that dosent really relate to what i need.

SO, here we go
i need to replace the spark plug in my push mower, the engine is a 6.5 horse, OHV briggs platinum. its about 5 years old, religiously maintained. (she is my baby) the stock spark plug is a champion RC12YX, and i cant find the damn thing anywhere. even on the champion website, i get "no results found". its like it dosent exist. ive read on various places that there isnt much differance between the YX and the RC12YC, which is a common, standard plug for almost ALL OHV engines. so i went and pulled the YX out of my push mower and the YC out of our Kohler V-twin, and waddya know, there almost identical. the only differance is that the center electrode is alot smaller on the YX. supposedly its like that to create a hotter, more prominate spark. i call snake oil. its also supposed to be "built" for a smaller, .20 gap, whereas the YC is "built" for a .30-.35 gap. really, the only differance is the center electrode. ive got a vid uploadin so i'll post that in here when its done. let me know what yalls think. would it be ok to use an RC12YC?

As long as the heat range is the same, it won't hurt anything. I looked up the letter designations in the book. Y stands for standard projected core nose. C = copper plus design. X is for fine wire.

You're good to run the YC at specified gap.

The R is for resistance, if you ran a plug without the R on ur engine during a football match on tv, every neighbour came out and yelled at you, since they distorted the tv picture  Very Happy
