| Okay, so my Briggs opposed will not start it is a crank no start. I rebuilt the carb about a week ago. The engine ran about a year ago but it ran rough. Right now it will crank all day long but not show any sign of wanting to start. Any ideas as to what it might be? | |

| Is it getting fuel? Pull the fuel line off the carb and see if any comes out when you crank the engine. | |

Sure is getting fuel. I even poured about a cap full of fuel down the throat of the carb and it still won't do anything

| grab some ether or carb cleaner, give it a snort. see if that fires it up. if not, pull your plugs and see if its getting spark. if there is spark, do a compression test. | |

I'll test spark once I head back out to the garage. It ran a year ago and the only thing I did was rebuild the carb so how could spark or compression loss be involved here?

| i dont know, but crazier things have happened. your flywheel could have rusted, keeping the magneto from firing | |

| Checked for spark and none at all. So I cleaned the surface of the magneto and stuck it all back together. Still has no spark so I think it's time for a new magneto | |

| before you go droping butt-loads of cash on a magneto, take off the kill wire. then retest for spark. if you have safety switches, one may not be working properly. pop the kill wire, re test. betcha youll have spark then | |

Engine is sitting in a test stand with no wiring harness. I even removed the kill wire from the coil completly

Guess so. Usually you don't see much trouble with electronic ignition coils on these small engines. At least I haven't for the most part. Only had one go bad on a mower I was working on for a guy, but it was made in the 80's somewhere and had a lot of use on it.

That is according to the guy I bought it from. So who knows why it went out on me

| I'm not at all surprised. Had exactly that happen to me years ago. Did some gentle mods on my trusty old H60, test ran, put it away. Took it out of mothballs some months later. No fire. Coil simply died in the interim. Could be anything. A little moisture gets in there, corrodes one little spot in the windings, and BOOM. It's dead, Jim! | |

| the biggest problem with opposed twins that i have is the coil acting up. the 16 hp i got had a bad coil, would not start at al. the other one would not start if you shut it off. | |
