From Memphis tn I love to work on small engines and I garden tractor pull and my tractor is very competitive I will post a pic of it soon and I am in the middle of building a 20hp onan puller on a cub cadet with a 3speed and reverse transmission and I have a Murray like fearlessfronts but all I have done to it is I have lapped the valves in it and went from a 9inch pulley on the back to a 3inch pulley

Onan's have some torque but the parts are $$$.

I know onan parts are expensive but I have over $1300 dollars invested in a single cylinder 12hp Kohler but now it will only cost me $75 dollars to rebuild it

Mostly the older cub cadets that were built by international harvester and the early Mtd models some people pull with the old John deeres and the sears but the cub cadets barely break they are set up just like a car with a ring gear and pinion and a differential and axles

Hard to beat any of the old IH tractors. I had a 109, wouldve kept it but it cut like ass. @mr.modified has a hydro-trans from one though he might sell me in spring.

The hydro transmissions are good for around the yard but if you hook it to a sled it won't make 50ft but we use the differentials & axles out of them

I don't know, granted I wasn't pulling a sled, but I've buried my hydro to the transaxle a couple times trying to drag large trees across the yard. Then again the hydro on these models are massive. The 77 I posted in your other thread.

They are good to a point especially to be able to run hydrolics off of them but if it easy for that the gear drives are the way to go
