BRIGGS Reverse ID from P/N# Empty
PostSubject: BRIGGS Reverse ID from P/N#   BRIGGS Reverse ID from P/N# Icon_minitimeNovember 5th 2018, 7:59 am

So I have and engine with no ID on the cover, but I have the part number for the tractor, and I know it was the original 17hp... So when I look it up on sears site it says the engine for it is 311707-0132-E3.

So how do I verify the fact that a 311707-0132-E3 is a 17hp engine. I can find all the parts diagrams and manuals but nothing says that it is a 17hp OHV.

Looking at the Operating & Maintenance Instructions shows that engine 31xxxxx has a displacement of 30.59 cu. in. (501 cc)

Most manufacturers are getting away from the HP and using CC's.  Some still use Both.  Using the 501 cc, you can google and find that it is about 17hp.

EDIT: the Operating instructions show the (501 cc) as well.

Thanks ok I see it now, just funny how they only advertise on the engine cover, and all over the tractor, but when looking up parts there is no way to verify...

I don't even have the tractor now but I did take a picture of the tag before I junked it so I am glad I did.
