Thought I would start a thread here for the Kubota GR2100.  The tractor is more than I figured.

The Green Machine getting it home.  Got stuck for a bit, but with the neighbor's Ford, was able to get it out so I could bring it on home.

Here are some shots of it...

The owner says, the hydro has a leak. The liquid under it here is just water that came out of the seat.

I wasn't aware that it had the 3cyl Diesel, 4 wheel drive with power steering.

I thought I would go ahead and make a topic here for keeping track of the repair/rebuild.

I do plan on putting it back to mower duty, but should that not work, maybe my new Utility Tractor.

Couple more shots.

I think it has just over 560 hours.

That's wild man nice score but let me get this strait... you scored a diesel 4x4 with power steering and you're not considering building it up to be a bad@$$ offroader capable of even the toughest of terrain and mud holes? I'm baffled! Lol

What a cool tractor and as @Doug mentioned what an odd transaxle!, What horsepower is that engine something like a 20 or 21hp?

@Brianator @Doug

Initial plan is to get it driving again.  Without hydraulics, it's pretty dead in the water.

Yeah, the transaxle on this thing isn't the heaviest looking thing in the world.

Very cool mower! I wasn't aware that kubota even made lawn tractors. 4 wheel drive is interesting. Is there a full transaxle in the rear and one in the front, or is there one pump driving both motors?

One pump drives everything.  There is a drive shaft that runs from rear to front to power the front axle.

As for the Kubota.  I will be a little while before I can get to it.  I have 2 house projects that will need immediate attention this spring.

When I still lived with my parents.  This Kubota was my primary mower.  Tractor my dad is climbing up on.  It is 4wd and power steering.

OK, mini update on the Great Pumpkin...

Tubes are now installed in the front tires since they were cracked so bad they would not hold air.

The GENERAL Img_3465

If I can get this thing running good, I may put the same tire set I have on the Marshal.  Outside a leaking transaxle, evidently there is an issue with the 4wd in the front.  No info other than that.

I have been looking for one like that at auction. There was one for $2800 on CL, but, that was too much $ for me at the moment. They have a V-1305 for sale close to me, but, for $1200 out of the mower, too much coin.

Absolutely a keeper, either as a mower or off road vehicle.

Minor update today. I did some checking and the tank had a lot of water. I got that drained, then put in some fresh. I then disconnected the fuel line from the engine and purged the line for about 2 minutes. Reconnected the line and about the 4th or 5th try she rattled to life. Ran a little rough for about a minute and then smoothed out to a nice diesel purr. I was filling the hydraulic fluid while waiting. Steering came back quickly. The deck lift and PTO worked great. Hit the go pedal and nothing but almost stalling the engine. I rocked it for a good 10 minutes of nothing. No so much as a budge or wiggle. I fear the front axle is seized. This week, I plan on disconnecting the drive shaft for the front axle and see what happens.

Great update news, the most expensive parts works.

In researching how to make my own hydraulic drive, I learned a few things. It might have hydraulic brakes. Once set, they need 400+ (?) PSI to release. Sort of like modern foundation brakes on a semi, cutting the hose does nothing. Except semis lock up with loss of pressure because of the spring (can).

If the hose or valve to the brakes are not working, then it can not apply pressure to release the cam/springs. Though once unlocked hydraulic brakes stay unlocked, even with loss of pressure, until you set the brakes on purpose. So, if it has a hydraulic parking brake, dropping the shaft does nothing.

The brake might be on the input shaft or pinion.

That was exactly what was going on.

The neighbor that gave it to me replaced the pump assembly on it once and apparently tighten the brake lever where it was always engaged.  Manual called it a free wheel lever.  Which in fact does allow it to minimally free wheel now as well.  Good thing because I stalled it out in the soggiest part of the yard and I was able to pull it back to the garage with Marshal.

IT's DRIVING and very well I might add.  Diesel is purring beautifully at this point.
The GENERAL Front_12

Walk of shame because it died out.  I think due to moisture in the system.  It needs flushed again and a filter, but at these diesel prices.  Yikes.  I need a battery too as this one is dead.  It needs jumped.

The GENERAL Front_14

Marshal to the rescue!

The GENERAL Front_13

I was going to jump it, but I needed more cranking amps than marshal had.

Observations at this point.  There is a leak at the front axle.  Not sure if it is hydraulic or axle at this point.  Not dug into that.  It was lower priority.  Lift cylinder also had some weeping.  Maybe it will come around could be dry.  It did set fot over 4 yrs.  Surpised the water in the tank didn't bust it.

Awesome, what a fun machine to have. 4 bolt front wheels, what's not to like!

No walk of shame, walk of shame is when you have to walk and get someone else to tow you.

You might want to remove the injectors and blow the line backwards (get rid of water and gunk) into a can, and make sure the tips are clean (do not rub them or anything like that). The most I would do is soak them in diesel. Then bleed the system with a new filter.

What i have done on hard starting and running Cummings 5.9L, , being careful not to get injected, is crack the furthest easily accessible line (#4) line and then crank for a few seconds and then while fuel is flowing, crank the nut enough to seal. Once off you can torque to needed spec or good-n-tight FPE.

OK, fuel system has been completely purged and cleaned. Thing has 2 fuel filters electric pump. Lines look clean and the return (where all the water was today) purged and the tank wiped clean. My fuel filters are due in tomorrow.

She's running like a top again, even the front axle leak seemed to have stopped after I got the proper level of hydraulic fluid.  Put the mower deck back on and was going to do an inaugural mow around the front yard.  I realized the rear tires were a bit low so I backed into the garage and on the way in I saw a fluid trail begin.  Hopped off and saw the puddle under the rear transaxle.  Found that the pressure lines from the pump were just spewing.  Big setback.  Looks like they may not have the copper gaskets on them.  I ordered some up today in hopes that fixes it.  The thing runs just too good to give in now.

You might not have the pressure gauge or adapters to check, but, I would look and see if someone turned up the pressure knob for the pump. Maybe the by-pass is defective? I doubt it and on cheaper units it might be built into the pump to save room. It might have been turned up to compensate for a leak and low fluid to improve performance. Which is an never ending circle of death.

Give up on a nice running diesel, never ! :-D

Neighbor that gave it to me tore it apart about 5 years ago. I'm guessing "hoping" he just forgot the copper gaskets. I don't see them at a glance. I found out today when I was draining out the excess, the drain plug has an extra copper gasket on it.

I know on brake lines you never reuse a cooper gasket, never heard doubling up on one, that would seem to promote a leak. Maybe the threads are stripped and they were trying not to engage them by spacing the plug further away?

Maybe it was just by accident and they forgot to remove the old one. Sort of like a double gasket an oil filter when the gasket sticks to the mounting surface.
