One of the things that I wanted to do since day one was replaced the solid mounted front axle.
This thing is made out of super thin tubing and it got bent early on. Not only that but because I had to space the wheels so far out on the spindles the turning radius is terrible.
I originally intended to just swap in a garden tractor front axle but I found that it would have required a whole lot of frame cutting or raised the front end way too high.
So I opted to build my own front axle . The steering was a bit tricky to get figured out because originally there was a rack and pinion and it just didn't allow enough travel to get a good steering radius with no widened axle.
I am still working on getting the steering situated but I ended up putting a yardman steering plate in mounted vertically above the axle.
It will have a bellcrank style "pitman" arm welded on to push/pull the tie rods
