After a long time I'm able to get back to messing about with my mower. I've installed a 16hp Vanguard where an 11hp used to be and not far off being finished. However.... I'm a bit confused by this fuel shut off solenoid thats fitted to the 16hp. I connected it to power and was expecting it just to click. It didn't, it just kept buzzing away like a little motor. It may be duff. I like to keep things simple so was looking at doing away with it, but when I pulled it out of the carb I found it seems to almost have a jet built in to it (see picture). Looking on line all to other solenoids I see seem to be just simple 'plunger ' types.
Any thoughts , guys?

I wonder if it could still be replaced with a short screw? I wonder if it is screwing into the main jet then when activated the side holes allow gas up the jet? Doing it this way to confuse people?

You could probably make a new one fairly easily with a metric bolt of identical pitch/diameter. Could even get fancy and chuck it into a drill press and use a dremel to “lathe” out the recession. Cross drill and bore and done.
My 20 horse vanguard had the conventional plunger. I too wanted rid of it so I bought a drain plug of the same size. Looks like it came that way. Can’t remember for the life of me what the size was, but you can probably find out yours with a pair of calipers. Pretty well sure it’s metric though cause all these motors were made in Japan.
