No, silicon & fuel don't mix. Permatex makes Form-A-Gasket products or MotoSeal #29132 that's designed to be used near fuel.
It's probably cheaper just to get the correct gasket.
I've made gaskets out of thin cardboard (like a cereal box or 12-pack) with no problems. I trace & cut out the gasket, spread a thin layer of grease on both sides and use it. Works in a pinch if you need it to Wink
