Good start to the new year with another project  cheers  cheers

My build starts with my 1978? Sears GT/16 Vari-Drive, my plans for the project are currently:

Kohler CH18S
Varidrive delete
Custom rear luggage rack
Rear hitch
2500# winch up front
Custom front bumper
Some custom decals maybe?

Presenting my 2025 ATLTF Buildoff entry!Topics tagged under buildoff2025 on All-Terrain Lawn Tractor Forum 00412
I picked this tractor up by making a deal with an older lady I work for-I would fix up an old yard cart of hers in exchange for this beauty of a mower.
I had been looking for a vertical drive mower to build up for a while, and this fits the bill perfectly. Here are some of the mods planned for it:

Peerless 820 swap: This should be easy since the mounting holes on the stock Spicer transmission appear to match the ones on the 820. I have already managed to secure one of these, a 6-speed.
Topics tagged under buildoff2025 on All-Terrain Lawn Tractor Forum 00312

Engine swap: Not quite sure yet what this will be, but I will likely start by slapping a slide carb on the stock 14.5 horsepower Briggs to wake it up a bit before I settle on its final power plant. I'm considering a 20 horse Kohler vtwin. Topics tagged under buildoff2025 on All-Terrain Lawn Tractor Forum 00611

The steering and axle on this mower will also be getting replaced. The front axle will probably be getting replaced with a rectangular tubing axle. The steering will be modded to either a rack and pinion setup or a 2nd generation Craftsman steering system.

I'm not sure yet which direction I will go in speeding this rig up. It will either be the 820-speedup kit or a simple pulley swap.

In terms of tractor shoes, I will be running 22- or 23-inch Kenda Bear Claw EXs on the rear and 19-7-8 Sunfs on the front.

The clutch will also need to be at least partially rebuilt to give the least belt slip while in the mud(holey pulley mod?) I also want to separate the clutch and brake that are currently linked to the same pedal, and give this a gas pedal as well.

As you can see, this mower is still in the planning stage, but I will be posting updates as this build progresses. Super excited to share this mower build with y'all!

Hello,

Here is my entry to the 2025 Build Off.

Going to start with a Craftsman GT6000 and use the 633 transaxle locked of course, Install a Briggs 16hp Vanguard for power, reinforce the frame, lift the front axle and give it more axle movement.  Also going to use 27x9-12 tires on the rear and some 21x7-10 on the front.  Finally going to use fully hydrostatic steering.

Rockin

Im looking to turn this guy into a snowplow rig! I think this would be handy for some snow removal jobs I have!
My plan is as follows
-Build Front Bumper
-Mount/wire in 2500lb Winch
-Modify 48 inch Craftsman dozer blade to fit Allis Chalmers mounts
-Mount any extra linkages
-Rear Chains and maybe weight box
There are some uncertainties to this project. Most notably traction and power.
This engine is fairly tired and was not a powerful tractor in the first place back in the 1960's. If this tractor does not appear to have enough power i guess 1 of 2 things with happen. New/rebuilt engine will be dropped in. Something with more HP and displacement if all goes well and budget allows, or unfortunately this tractor may not finish the 2025 B/O. But that thought there depresses me so lets just go believe if needed I will just Big Block swap it!
There is some other smaller repairs and stuff like that.
Let me know if I need to change anything!

Hi all, this is my 2025 build-off entry, a 1967 Sears Custom 6, the tractor's name will be "Blackout".

What's been done so far:
I picked this tractor up back in October. So far, I've completely stripped it out. A Peerless 2300 from a John Deere 200 series tractor has been fitted into it. This tractor had a 2300 from factory, however, this different 2300 has been installed in a completely custom way. The last thing is a Predator 670 was obtained and fit into the engine bay.

What's left to do before completion:
-Front axle/ suspension
-Steering
-Brakes
-Seat
-Fuel system/ fuel tank
-Frame reinforcement
-Bumper(s)
-Clutch/ belt system
-Seat
-Floor boards/ tree kickers
-Wiring
-Head lights
-Shift gate
-Hood fitment
-Paint
-Wheels & Tires

Here are a couple more photos of the tractor from the day I bought it:

Introducing project Saber
As previously mentioned, this is a existing mud mower. Previously functing too.
I built it about 2 years ago, but after 2 years, and about 50 hours of run time, and many miles of back road bagging, she needs some upgrades.
The planned upgrades are as follows
-GT front axle
-move front axle ahead
-Front hubs w ATV rims and tires (19x7x8)
- New front axle mount/centre articulation point with greasable points
- rack and pinion steering
- New front bumper
-Possibly add a 3000LB winch to the front
-Either rebuild the 15hp single cylinder, that has a impressive amount of blow by or install a freshly rebuilt 20hp intek V twin
-Swap hood for a unique looking massy Ferguson hood for a different look
- add a rear tail light
- possibly add some sweet crager SS chrome hubcaps. They will need some modifying, but it could be done I'm thinking.
-repaint the old school massy Ferguson hood to match the rest of the mower
-I'd like to also pull the "Doc-locked" pearless 820 and add a drain plug, fill plug and change the oil/grease mix inside of it
***Last night I did do a bunch of grinding on the frame and cut off a bunch of old axle parts, aswell as weld up some of the old axle holes. You can see what I did in the current photos from today, vs the photos from a few days ago, whether that affects my eligibility or not, that's up to the admins. I'm good with whatever verdict is determined!

Some supplies/parts not pictured here
General steel building materials, all covered in snow and ice, il dig it out as I need it
Light bar, still bolted to the factory lt4000 hood

OK, I'll kick this puppy off.  Probably won't get to start for a few days.

Here is my 1998 Murray GT I am currently calling Mighty's Murray.  Rally build. Plans are as follows.

  • Doc Locked Peerless 820
  • New Tires and wheels
  • Steering, this has the odd but rugged 7/8" spindles not 3/4"!  I have an easier way to deal with this or a harder way.  Not sure which path to take as both have their complexities.  Continue with the steering link?  It seems pretty rugged.
  • Any axle moves? Part of steering.
  • Hood swap, late 70's MTD Hood has to go.
  • Clean up the engine and see if it needs anything.  I may need a ring set for it, not sure as it smoked when first started, but it hadn't been started in a long time when I got it.  It was a tad over full and no fuel in oil.  It could have just weaped. When I started it at home it did not smoke.
  • Fresh paint, the red over (I thought it was supposed to be dark green) black (original pain?) is awful.  I am leaning 2 directions.  Black or Murray Red.
  • Will need to mod the dash for my early-mid 80's Murray hood.  Plastic dash is too wide for it.  I'm thinking 90's dash.

Enough tellin' what I am doing, I have more just can't think off the top of my head.

Here are the entry pix.

The Tractor.
