| Back when we were up north, my dad bot a $150 king craft 2000 watt generator from Aldi's- wife almost bot one- just for emergencies here in the south.
Pop still hasnt fired up his generator yet, but today we went to a nearby Aldis and found a 3200 watt 6.5HP powered king craft generator for $200 - looks darn close to my dads homelite generator he bot many years ago- supposedly the run time is 11HRs at half load. Basically we plan to just run our freezer and fridge in case of a power outage - possibly a fan as well. Ive been meaning to get one sometime because of hurricane season is getting close.
Only thing stopping me from starting it is they suggest 10w30 or 30 weight oil - which i have neither around- figure ill put new oil in, run it a few times, then drain the oil and run it again, while testing the output of it.
Its a bit hefty, so ill make a whole new frame and mount some lawntractor wheels under it .
The only sorta thing im curious is that its a chinese built generator...not my first choice but was the right price- if it lasts years into the future- then ill be satisfyed.
Keep y informed on it. | |

| Cant wait to see how it pans out. We got a genny with a clone motor, not had any problems yet, although its still fairly new. I need to swap the oil from the run in oil to fully synth. | |

| when we moved to this house about 5-6 years ago, it was a junk yard. there were cars, tools magazines push mowers and hell even a couple lawn tractors its too back i didnt clue in and realise all the fun sittin there. i didnt get into the sport back then it took use( 8 going on 9) too move all that shit a couple week well now to the point of my story. i was in the tool shed (that was here when we got the place) a couple months ago and was lookin for a bolt or sumthing and saw a red thing. after a good 2 hours i pulled out this old briggs generator. I think its a 12 horse not too sure but its heavy. after a hour and a half it fired right up i was supprised. Mustve been sitting around 10 to 20 years! | |

| Update: I decided to fire up the new generator today- hauled it out onto my steel sawhorses - took the plug out, sprayed some PB blaster in the combustion area , put lucas oil and pennzoil SAE 30 into the pan, pulled it over a couple times to get things working smooth. So put the plug back in, added a lil bit of gas in it , turned the choke on and the gas on - second pull it fired right up. I was impressed how easily it fired up. I ran it like 15 mins with no load, then put a box fan on it for like another 15 mins, then ran my air compressor on it for another 15 mins- ran nice n smooth! It ran out of gas, it was hot enough so i changed the oil again - i probably didnt have to, but i did anyway- it suggests to change it every 20 hours. I was really impressed on how quiet it was and how smooth it ran. Ill be ready if any hurricanes come thru this year ( they say it might happen) | |

| Sounds awesome. 20 hours seems a little excessive though?
Talking about hurricanes, anyone seen that sinkhole? That really scares me, the fact that what you thought was solid ground falls into a 330ft deep hole!

| Well, generators rev pretty high - even at idle it runs pretty fast. When i run it again ill probably change it after that - itll sit probably more then itll be used - pop said run em like once a month or so to keep em all good. I do need some gas stabilizer tho.
Sinkholes? Theyre all over down here- the sandy soil and water dont mix .
I was watching some show on TV once - this guy was at a gas station was pulling up to a pump and fell into a giant sinkhole right near the pumps - like opened up right under his truck. That was creepy.

| That happened recently in Guatemala, its been in the news. A trpocial storm caused it I think! Apparently it only happens in aread where the underlying ground is liable to erosion from water | |

| That sinkhole is ALMOST as big as the one in the road, on the way to my parents house... When I first saw that picture, it reminded me of my bank account! I also kinda reminds me of a girl I knew in high school... J/K!! Sorry to hijack your thread, but I couldn't resist! | |
