Hey, I'm new Here Empty
PostSubject: Hey, I'm new Here   Hey, I'm new Here Icon_minitimeJanuary 2nd 2013, 4:36 pm

Hi,
My name is Sean and I'm from Maine. I got into racing and off road mowers because of Todd Christopher's videos (Fearlessfront on youtube) and am working on a racing mower project right now. It's a 5-speed Murray wide body. I am debating whether or not to turn it into an offroad mower or keep it a racing mower and make my 6 speed Murray wide body (sitting under a pile of snow right now and in need of new steering gear) into an offroad mower. Any suggestions? What should I do for ratios (I was thinking a 1:1 with a 5"-5" pulley for offroad). I have a 2:1 (8" front to 4" rear) ratio on my racing mower right now.

Here's a clip or two of my racing mower:

A 1 to 1 ratio is pretty good for off roading , i would say if you have one allready built as a racer keep it and build the other one as a off roader . And welcome to the ATLTF

Definitely leave your racer as a racer and turn the other into a mudder. No point in reverting it if its already done.

Ok then, I will keep my racer a racer and start a build for an Off-road mower. What are some good cheap off-road tires I can get for my build? And is there any interest in anyone up in the Maine area for buying my racer? Still have some more things to do to it.

Like whatever the 24" ones are that this guy has on his Craftsman here. And then some quad tires in the front that will fit on stock rims.

Looks like he is just running standard ATV tires. Tires on rims arent cheap.

You can also look up FearlessFronts mod to put truck/ car tires on a mower. It will require hacking up some tractor rims though.

You might like these cheap and aggresive and they come in 22 11 8 so they will fit the stock rear rim.

When i considered modding my agway for offroad, i was on the hunt for ATV or AG tires - it took a while but i scored some tires pretty reasonable - i looked at a pair of AG tires new and they wanted $50 EACH.

Bot a pair of wooly boogers for the back for $20 ( with rims) - then bot a pair of new atv fronts for $10 but had to buy the rims for $30 - then my nephew had a buddy that wanted $50 for like 10 ATV wheels and some rims along with a GT murray.

Search flea markets, thrift stores, 'Restores' - stuff like that - maybe put an ad on CL for some used but decent ones?
