Did you use solid copper there? Or is it just a copper cap?
Im contemplating using a hunk of copper for a knife Im going to put a handle on.
I think it would look pretty neat...

I have several home built forges and a trashcan furnace for casting. I have done a LOT of tutorials to teach folks how to build a backyard foundry and forge from junk

I participated in a "Knifemakers support the Boyscouts" deal where a bunch of us knifemakers made Nessmuk type knives for a boy scout troop in Ohio. These are the two I made for them

the traditional one (replica)

Wow, that's some nice work!  I've seen good and seen some pretty ugly blacksmithing and you've got a good style going on.  The laminated handles are cool too.  Ever think of making handles out of deer antlers?

Nice work! Blacksmithing is a lost art but its cool to still see someone doing it, especially if the SHTF. Everyone should carry a knife of some type or another IMO. What knife would you recommend as a all purpose side carry? Im talking like a bowie or what a soldier would have.

The best knife you own, is the one you have on you when you need it Smile
That said, I prefer a 5 to 6 inch moderately thick (1/8 to 3/32) single edge with a straight edge and a curve. Bowie point comes in handy, but a drop point is stronger. A knife like that isn't great for every task, but it will accomplish most tasks.

I kinda like simple straight back knives like this one I did for a mountain man

your right about that. I carry a Leatherman multi tool and have been for years but I do want a knife for survival use.

Sad part is... Im not quite sure where they are at this point.

Im planning to build a simple brake drum forge at some point... though, that one you posted about lawren, was it yours? Made from an air tank? Would you mind posting that again? Thats a possibility too.

What are some other simple designs?
