Thanks, I'm hoping on getting a high flow K&N style air filter but I'm still broke

In my opinion UNI filters are way better for offroad then K/N, They do much better at getting the dirt out of the air before the motor, and are much much easyer to clean.

So I got my new air filter today. It is a Speed by Spectre Performance air filter that is washable and it has pre-oiled cotton fiber so its ready for use. But this thing is freakin huge, its 6in diameter and 6.75in tall so it wont fit under the hood like i was planning but there are other places to put it. For less than $30 it was worth it.
Heres some pics

Yea I think i figured out a spot to put it. Ill just have to build a guard for the bottom part of the filter so it wont get completely covered in mud or ill lift the hood up a little bit to put it under the hood

this is where im thinking of putting the filter if i dont raise the hood

You could put it on top of the hood somewhere, might look kinda ugly though. Not sure if you mentioned it before, but what kind of transaxle is in that thing? You have a regular disk style clutch like a cub cadet?

I wish it had the disk style cub cadet clutch but it just has the regular v-belt clutch, which if you look closely at the first picture that I posted of the machine you can see part of the clutch system. But as for what kind of transaxle I couldn't tell ya, not now anyways but when I get home from school I'll look and see.

the simplicity tractors have a transaxle made in-house by simplicity. they have a horizontal input shaft that is parallel to the axles. They have a driveshaft hooked to a right angle gear box that has two output shafts, one on each side of the tractor, one for the attachments and the other for the transmission drive. it has a belt from the ragb to the trans.

Looks like a neat place to put the air filter. As you said, cover it up so that mud wont get in to it
