With the halftrack finished I have decided to move onto a more "elaborate" project. I have always wanted to build an amphibious ATV so that is what I am doing. I also hope to document my efforts alot better than I usually do . Today I managed to finish ~80% of the power pack unit that will be used to power it. I am a little worried about the center of gravity, but I wanted it to take the least amount of space possible in the machine. Here goes nothing!
Power flow Engine-->CVT-->chain reduction-->4spd tranny-->differential axle
Would like to see some video of the half track if possible.

Didn't get much done last week, I'm holding up until I get all the parts I need from the junkyard (rear axle, wheels and drive shaft). Hopefully this week will be more productive.

Was able to finish both tensioners this weekend, also found some wheels/tires and a driveshaft.

Seat and front tensioners mounted, steering and gearshifter controls installed. Now I need to yank out and finish the powerpack by welding the output shaft to the tranny. I'm still on the look out for a decent Ford 7.5", unfortunately all the junkyard axles around here have frozen drums. Maybe I'll start just start on tracks if I can't find an axle soon, get it pretty much romp ready I suppose.

Interesting so far. If you end up with flotation issues you can always add more buoyancy by bolting on some tanks or something.

Prancstaman, the undercarriage will be based off my own variant of a Ranger V/Ferret/Otter tracked atv.
Been a busy summer but today the beastie moved for the first time!
There is still a couple of tweaks on the final drives I need to make (thrust washer surface, jam nuts, right brake adjustment,etc), but overall I am very satisfied with the drive train. I also need to add a center wheel to help distribute vehicle weight over the center track, currently the atv breaks traction easily and 'bunny hops'. I should be able to start making it amphibious in the beginning of August hopefully!

Nice tracks. They almost look like the tracks from a renault ft-17. But I still think we need an enclosed version with a turret...
Ehhh, I'll get there eventually I suppose...
Final drive gears were jumping due to my original diff. mounts breaking off, which caused the gear centers to be too far apart. Welded some extensions, just breaking in the finals. I do like the torque now, pretty much skids like an old Cat, should've put this system into my muskrat.
