Wondering how easy it is to remove the governor mech, to convert to foot pedal throttle? Is it just a case of removing all the external governor parts and fabbing up a cable system to the throttle arm and a cable to the choke on the carb?

Thanks!

No, you definitely want to remove it inside the engine, or else it can hit a gear or something and destroy your engine.

It is POSSIBLE for the internal governor to fly apart. Most people are lucky and it doesn’t come apart. I would remove the whole mechanism and run a self tapping screw into the hole in the block where the shaft used to go. They are really simple engines and aren’t hard to take apart and put back together

On the other hand you can hook up a foot throttle to your existing governor as well.

Here are some alternative options that I use and work great. I also have removed a gov and loved the results, so it's just kinda what you'd like to do.

On the craftsman HE, I attached a spring to the governor arm, just as if it was still connected stock, only it's not hooked to the carb or anything. Just a spring to hold tension on it. Then I hooked my throttle cable direct to the carb as I would if I had completely removed the governor.

I would have taken the engine apart but I was in a hurry for haspin so I did a quick job on it. But it won't go anywhere that way. Works the same as if it was still connected, as far as tension being on the governor.
