I just got a wheel horse L 156 and it is gonna be a fun project. What it has: 29x12-15 good year ag tires Very Happy a 3 speed unidrive trans, no engine (the old one blew up), farmall decals, and atv frount tires. Not bad for free lol!

The plan: put a 11hp briggs flat head and do wheelies!

BTW: how do I lock the 3 speed uni-drive trans?

Cool, it's like a stunt tractor. Pretty nifty front wheel adapters welded up there. I think that trans just unbolts and then you can weld the gears up, shouldn't be too bad. You probably need to take at least one of the hubs off one of the axles to split the case. I haven't personally done a wheel horse transaxle so maybe someone else can give a more detailed description. You can also search through the old threads on here because there should be a few at least on locking transaxles. Be sure to post pics as you go! I have one of those tractors too that I wanna build but it's in pieces and I didn't get back to it yet.

Nice patina there! (I don’t say that often either) That tractor just screams to me “Custom bumper” wheelie horse 2731072446

redzz02 has a vid on it, he's doing a high low but it should be the same as any other unidrive transaxle from a wheel horse

Well I got an update, I was mocking up the engine and its gonna be a tight fit but it will fit. I popped the plug out of the trans and just like most wheel horses that sit outside for a long time...full of water wheelie horse 2429134702 I watched the video on how to lock the rear end seems simple enough. hey @redzz02 how hard is it to get new seals/gaskets for a 3 sped uni-drive trans out of a wheel horse l-156

Well update, I am gonna put a different engine in it! A briggs and stratton racing engine that makes about 30hp!! affraid right now it is jetted to run on alcohol but I am gonna jet it to run on pump gas.

Pros:
- 30hp affraid
- lighter than the 11hp flat head
- will fit better than the 11hp flat head
- gonna have more torque and power
- it is gonna be badass

Cons:
- gonna be thirsty
- gonna wanna wheelie all of the time

Great score! Those old round hood Horses are light in the front as is, now factor in that your new engine will most likely be aluminum, you wont have ANY problem yanking the front end, and you dont even need to lock the axles.
However, if it has the original 3 lug hubs, replace them with the newer 5 lug hubs with double set screws.
This was my 1964 "wheelin horse". Hopped up 11hp OHV, 28mph, and wheelie'd so easy it was almost no good for trail bombing- I had to build an adjustable wheelie bar so I could go up hills without going over backwards haha.

Well I went to look to that race engine and it wasn't a race engine. wheelie horse 2429134702 wheelie horse 2429134702
Well now I have two options stuff that big 11hp flathead in it or get an 6.5 hp Honda clone.
I am leaning towards the 11hp flathead for more power/torque. Let me know what you think I should do.

Thanks man! I sold it to build my B-1 bomber, but if I can dig up some pics and remember some specs and pulley sizes I can do a thread on it.

I don’t know what your market is like, but considering the collectibility of the old wheel horses I’d ask a bit more. 100 and it will probably still sell even without an engine if you can swap some factory-ish front tires on. Sorry you have to sell it.
