1989 Craftsman II

hmm.... i notice you have the same rims that i am using, the 13" rim with 23" tire. You know if you want to, like i did, get some old tractor rims like the ones you were comparing size to the bigger tire, cause instead of making a hub thats what ive done, if you want a better pic or view just look at my project on craftsman offroad tractor, by motorhead45102.

but those tires look pretty good, i wish i had alittle bit more agressive tire that mud wont get built up in the tread and become slicks.

yea funny thing is when i saw them laying there at this auction the first thing i thought was motorhead had the same ones. lol i might take another look at it, might consider it idk.
or i might just leave the ones i have on because i only paid 1 dollar for those big wheels so if they just sit there it isn't a big deal. lol

I don`t think the front tires will affect the transaxle.

hey guys change of plans but i think its for the better. i went garage selling today and i found a pair of rear wheel from a quad! they are 22x10 on a 9 inch rim. got lots of tread on them. paid $20 bucks for the pair. i'll try and get pics later.

That sounds alot better! $20 is a total bargain! Should be awesome

yep, asked the person selling the stuff and they said 20 bucks. and the first thing i thought in my head was you can't even buy on tire for that!!

i know i'm so excited to get them on. just have to have some hubs made. my dad might help me with the hubs.

as soon as i get those on and the new rear pulley i'll be good to go, all that and a bumper and she'll basically be complete (for now lol)

you got that right, nothing of mine is ever totally finished alwyas something else I can do to it. Really wanan see these tyres on the machine, will give it an awesome stance too!

i can't wait either. now i won't slip as much in mud and snow. last winter i was always getting stuck and needing to get off and push. if i find time today (its memorial day so i have to go do 21 gun salutes at all of our local cemetaries) i'll get pics of the wheels

just a little size comparison

i like the tread, aggressive but not too agressive

these are them together one is aired up and one isn't, just thought i'd show you guys the difference, they get way taller when you air them up

i was suprised when they had 8 holes.

and this is my transaxle, its a FOOTE 3865 and its a 5 speed. good or bad?

Cool tires- those are probably a universal atv rim - should be fairly easy to make hubs for em.

That trans should hold up good- just clean out the old grease and put heavy gear oil in it.

Yup, once you have hubs made they'll be awesome. Very nice tyres indeed. lol

Nothing wrong with Foote. Just like dangeroustoys said, add gear oil, grease everythign up, seal and put back together and it should last jsut as long as any other

The foote is ok, they have a smaller bull gear then their peerless counterparts. As long as you dont try to "pop" wheelies all the time, it should be fine. I have 2 foote 4 speeds.

i'm having trouble finding a 6 inch pulley with the ride shaft hole size and the right heighth. might have to settle for something like a 7 inch or 8. idk though i want a 6. lol

hey guys. one thing i've always hated about most tractors is all the plastic on them. luckily mine only has it on the front for a grill. i was wondering if i took out the plastic (and liked the looks of it) and did some bracing in the front if it would be ok to have that open or with some metal mesh on it. what you guys think?

Got any photos? You could leave it open, but it'll probably get it alot dirtier.

Yeah, I swapped mine for a nicer hood. MTD always make good looking tractors in general. Thats why both my replacement hoods have been MTD.
Older tractors generally look better.

i thought about taking the hood off of my yard machines and putting it on there without its grill. it wouldn't cover the front or most of the sides. more of a hotrod look. lol.

I personally like the agway hoods. They look like an old musclecar.

Those of you who have followed me on youtube will know I have one of these. Steering is totally pooched. And the hood was cut on one side to fit an oppsed twin. But if it stuck out a little on both sides, it would look awesome! I shouldnt really dig it out sometime!

Chunk- looks like an old dynamark - man i had 7 dynamarks at one time- im down to 3 now- the kleen kut is DOA at the moment tho - took the motor off and set the deck aside to keep it from rotting- the 82 and 84 still run/mow - 82 i cleaned up and parked in the shed - 84 i changed the oil on and changed the gas line/put a shut off valve on it.

I dunno i keep going back and forth sometimes about the kleen kut - wether to keep it mowing or eventually mod it( id go hot rod mod- low and fast- id leave it all rusty for a rat rod)- its a pain in my arse - it ran good then started acting up , i let it sit for a few months and it wouldnt start. i parked the KK engineless for a few months now.

Eventually ill find time to tinker with em all.....

I think Dynamark may have borrowed this design, but cheaper made. Because these things were around in the late 70's. They're rediculously heavy.

Ive got a chassis sitting outside my garage with everything stripped, only the front axle remains. And its still heavy! Im planning on keeping it, and welding the chassis to the other westwood, so I can make that pick up tractor design.
