I have a Westwood Gazelle W11 and am currently refurbishing the brakes as they were a mess. I have noticed there is an extension on the brake bar that looks as if it would latch the brake on through depressing the knob by the seat. Is this correct way of engaging the handbrake. Does the brake have to be adjusted correctly so that this will work please?

westwoods are not common, you will have to take a picture of what your talking about and hopefully we can help you figure it out. I doubt anyone knows off the top of there head how it works.
I think its the same as the craftsman and Countax I have a PDF here http://static.fatsoma.com/gts-pdfs/westwood/westwood-83.pdf Look down to the W11. Thank you for your help as this is a puzzle and the instruction manual suggest twisting the clutch brake to engage the hand brake which doesnt seem to do anything
I have been out and took some pictures of he brake and what i think is the handbrake. Even though I have the brake working I cannot figure out how the hand brake functions through this leaver. There is a bar at 45 degrees to the break rod that I think is supposed to catch when this brake and lever is depressed it doesn't seem to work though . Does any one have any ideas.

does the brake come on when you push down the clutch? it looks like someone made an extension for the factory brake lever on the transmission. its possible someone switched up how the brake functions vs a bone stock tractor and that is why your handbrake/parking brake wont work.
Have worked this out the bar that actuates the brake is not threaded far enough up to allow the rod to travel back through the brake to engage hand brake . I have took it out and it needs taping down 1.5" . I think this rod was powder coated and the rod rusted the thread away when it was coated i am going to try to cut the 5/8UNF thread further up it. You can see with peda down nut backed all wa up its wrong
Does anyone have a pic of the engine brake inhibitor switch bracket please as mine is missing
Finally have park brake working . All it was was that the 5/16 UNF thread did not go up the bar far enough. Now I dont know if this was because it was corroded or was a wrong brake bar but threaded it up a further 1.5" and now works fine.
I need a picture of the brake inhibitor bracket if anyone has one I have only seen this so far on ebay
