4X4 Offroad Mower-20hp Kohler,6spd, No Diffs

A old Murray Garden Tractor that came with a 18hp opposed twin, but I took it off to rebuild and ended up putting a 20hp V-Twin on it. Originally, stock, it came with a peerless 820-018, a very rare transaxle that I believe only came on those mowers. Making it 4X4 after realizing it didn't go as good in the mud as I thought it would.

What do you mean by no differentials? Like both transmission will be locked? Or you gonna be running like chains and a straight axel?

Their will be no differentials in either axles, so it is all time 4 wheel drive and not that one tires spins but the other doesn't crap.

If you are using two peerless axles how are you going to steer

I had a yamaha kodiak with locking axles.. lemme tell you.. your never gonna be able to steer with front and rear locked.. pavement is going to hate you.. with 4x4.. id run atleast a front diff

He's using 't' gear boxes for axles and drive shafts off of the mst

Changed my mind, I want to be able to steer so I'm taking out the axles of the peerless 820 and using them in the front because they have a differential that is a single piece and wont fall apart or break.

What are 't' gear boxes?

They are gearboxes shaped like a T . Heres a picture of what they look like.

What are those out if them are some huge gear boxes I want em lol

A 44 and a 60? a V8 making like 10 times more hp than the twin doesn't break them lol. just get a d20

What are you going to be using for universal joints? You Could use some pretty cheap ones i bet With the smaller engine.

I have to agree with Red here, the Dana 23 found in old jeeps and even in many harley golf carts would be much more friendly for what you intend to do, and the golf cart ones are even pre-shortened. The 60 and 44 would be too much drag on the engine anyway, and unless you set your ratios really low from the engine out, it likely wont move. Just trying to be of help here...

I might use a golf-cart axle front and rear, but the gearboxes would fit my tractor better, and I need two specific ones.
