lifting the GT6000 (no welds)

So the build is beause I have possible future plans for this rig. But for now the lift is more because I like the look and im 6'2" and felt the tractor was too short. Enough said. The rear is neimg lifted utilizing the stock implement hitch plate by swinging it down to a 90° angle to the mower's frame rails.yes there is a little grinding involved but the process is very straight forward. Use the hitch plate and the front will be dropped down using spacers between the axle and frame. Any tips are very much appreciated.

cool. I have been trying to do a lift on my rig, since it looks funny with the lift on the front and big tires. I think the hardest part would be hooking up the hi/lo selector. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Thats exactly my thinking as well. Buuuttttt since I took off my stock throttle which is pretty much a push/pull choke cable I figure I could reuse the cable as my high low selector.hooking it up wouldnt be too hard. Any thoughts?

I have a 60's Sears with the same transaxle and the hi/lo lever isn't all that easy to move... I don't know if a choke cable will have enough to move it. If there's enough room I'd suggest drilling a new hole in the tunnel for it lower and keep the stock linkage.

Ill have to try that and get it mocked up. Currently im getting the rear hitch cut to fit around the pumkin hiusing of the transaxle. So far so good

Ok so heres the update...got a total around 5.5" of lift in the rear and I jacked up the front and put her on blocks to see what she'll look like when level, and man she looks sexy. Surprisingly enough my belt still fits!!! Theres a little less travel to put the clutch in now which is nice but it still fully enguages and fully disengages the belt. Next on the list is brakes and hi/low shifter.

Had to cut the hitch to fit the 633 rear but ill get it guseted and welded later.

Could probably just lower the shifter make new brackets and bolt them up.

Yeah Ive been putting together kids toys from Christmas lol been busy but Im going to be lowering the shift arm like you all have been saying and Im trying to figure out how much lift Im doing in the front because I have 25" atv tires for the front as well lol.

Front lift done using unistrut. Its very heavy duty unistrut. got steering hooked back up just need to run the brake cable

In pic #4 your belt is rubbing on the retainer. It will wear the belt out really quick that way.

Yeah if you ditch that retainer it'll loosen your belt up a little and give you your clutch travel back. Or, if you don't want your belt hanging that low, I'd suggest to put an idler pulley on the bottom of the belt. But then that will be hanging low. Either way it's gotta go.

So that retainer has been on the tractor rubbing like how you see it for a long time and Ive never had any issues but I think something is in order to get it out of there....I kinda like the short throw clutch lol. Also I have to add another clutch spring since I removed the brake linkage from the clutch to do a remote brake handle.

Well before your axle was higher, so your belt wasn't as tight on the retainer. But at the angle it is, I give your tractor 3 miles before it burns out the belt.

welp guess ill be laying out my extra pulleys and figuing a quick idler set up to keep the belt up out of the way. Thanks for all the help guys. much appreciated.

yeah its enough to shift but the ball scrapes just barely making it almost impossible to lock it in gear so its an easy fix.....cant fix it till the build off starts lol. getting ansy

Here are some more updates on the GT
hardest part was shaping the shifter to where I wanted it. everything else just came into play.

this was an old single stage snowblower shoot director turn handle Im using as my shifter extension




Threaded the rod to 7/16 or a standard 3/8 ths bolt



removed old shifter knob to use it on the new shifter





One of the most important tools in the metal fab lol everyone should have one.

made measurements and heating up the solid rod for my bends



Had to do a little trimming but in the end everything fit very well.



new hand brake deal. so now my clutch and brake are separate.



Disc brake hooked up and she stops on a dime. much nicer than stock setup

that's coming along nice! now you need a set of 22" tall front tires Have you figured out the hi/lo selector?

my goal is to get some 3/4" bore 4 bolt hubs from BMI karts or MFG Supply and slip them on the front spindles and run a 4.80 x12 trailer tire up front. and no i still havent done the hi/low selector yet lol the low on the tractor is really low so i need some more pulley options. I need a smaller trans-axle pulleybut im not sure what other pulleys will fit the tapered shaft on the 633 transaxle.

Don't change the trans axle pulley, change the engine pulley.

Bigger front pulley =less slippage.

not sure where to get a smaller front pulley because i have one of those wedge style ones
where you tighten it up and the pulley wedged to the mount thats bolted to the engine

Got my waterproof digital voltage meter in today and have it wire up to the ignition switch. Looks really nice in my opinion and I plated off the old throttle area. Getting her cleaned up....I still am having an issue figuring out what pulley to get for my engine....I'll post pics

Heres the engine pulley ...guys are saying to not swap the transaxle pulley and to swap the engine pulley but I havent found any smaller wedge style tapered two piece pulleys
