PULL - Pull behind dump cart? Empty
PostSubject: Pull behind dump cart?   PULL - Pull behind dump cart? Icon_minitimeFebruary 12th 2018, 6:25 pm

Hey guys, I thought of this idea the other day and ive thought it over for a while:
What if i take the c-channel frame from the widebody i have out back, slap a deck under it and set an opposed on the front, where the engine would normally go...but in the back, where the dash/seat/fenders would normally go, put a pretty heavy dump bed? Down the road there is an abandoned farm, and back there is a very light duty logsplitter with a tiny hydraulic pump on it. It is belt driven, by the way. My idea was to have this hydraulic powered dump cart that can haul a fair amount of weight (600-800 pounds tops) but also have it able to be a pull behind. I would make a quick remove deck, for when i just need the dump cart. It's main purpose would be for mowing ditchbanks and treelines. The bed would be handy for picking all the rocks and crap out of the ditchbank and putting them into the bed without having to pull a wagon behind the pull behind. I would likely pull this contraption with my sears or my murray...when they get finished. Any ideas on this?

I have considered doing something similar. I think it would be easier and faster to just make a small frame out of some tube steel with tin for the bottom and sides, then the axle could be stronger and thee would be more options for tires ect.

Interesting idea, so it would be like a mower deck with hauling capability on top? Guess that would work.

yes, that is the general jist of what i was thinking. Yes CQ, i am cheap. everyone knows this. I just dont like to waste anything. Anyway, the mower deck would initially be the 42 inch MTD deck i have laying out back, but would eventually be swapped out for the 54 inch on the John deere i currently use to mow the yard. The tranny is dying on it, so i will have those parts available before long. My concern is weight for mowing. My thought is that if the dump bed is heavy enough to make use of a hydraulic cylinder, it is too heavy to be an efficient pull behind. So i would probably ditch the hydraulics and just make a handle to pull on and release the bed to lift it up to dump. It would make the whole thing a lot simpler.
