| Does anyone have an idea for a clutch if I were to basically remove the belt and pulleys and use sprokets and chain on a mud mower? | |

| Using a centrifugal clutch would allow you to do that. There are a couple guys on here doing those kind of builds. | |

| I know I could do that but is there a way without buying a clutch? And besides, would that work when its hanging upside down? | |

| Without a clutch, you won't have any slip or way to disengage under load except to shut the mower down. Not exactly a good mix when running chain all around. |

| You will need a clutch. Without any clutch, you will-
*Not be able to start the engine without beginning to roll immediately *Not be able to come to a full stop without shutting down or stalling the engine *Not be able to shift gears without breakage.
You would-
*Have to put it in neutral to start and warm up the engine on a cold start *Then, after engine is warm, shut it off, put it in 1st or 2nd, and restart engine to begin moving *To come to a complete stop you would have to shut engine off or brake hard until engine stalls *To reverse, shut engine off, restart in reverse, shut off again, restart in forward,
etc etc etc.
Trust me, you need a clutch of some kind. Otherwise, it will be a total pain in the ass to drive. | |
