Can it hurt ur coil if you just wire your lights straight up to the coil wires

you cant wire them to the coil. You would have to wire them to the stator and or the battery

there should be a plug that comes out from under the flywheel. the one with the diode (little bump in the wire before the first connector) is for battery charging, and one is for headlights.
