Sometimes When I crank the starter will engage and start the engine but won't disengage. And other times the starter will spin but not engage. And other times it will function properly. Is my starter on it's way out?

Not the starter per se- the Bendix drive (the gear unit on the end of the starter) is sticking. Remove it, clean it, add some dry lube like graphite, should be good.
Thanks will try that sometime soon, The tractor isn't finished yet but that will be fixed before the project is finished. If that doesn't work I will have to change the whole starter or do they sell parts for it?
