Well boys, I scored a "new" rig! Its an 89' GT6000 powered by an 18 horse briggs opposed! and behind that opposed is a 633a!! I traded my 2004 Huskee (not running), 4 ps3 games and 80 bucks now, supposedly all it needs is a drive belt. It wont start. it cranks to the compression strokes and it stops. even jumping it from my truck. I took the sparkplugs out with hardly any change, so ive deducted that it needs a starter.. Now, normally a starter is no big deal, but this is horizontal shaft, so i'll have to pull the engine.... i found a starter for 40 bucks shipped on amazon. its not a briggs part, but whatever..
OH! the best part? My Executioners will bolt right up to it, until i can afford another set anyway!
the wiring is a mess on the thing, so its probably going to be gutted and a simple toggle switch with push button starter. i think the ignition is bad, but im not positive
I also have the mower deck. its in OK shape, few rot spots, but i can patch it up no problem
here is a few pics- let me know what you guys think. even if its not running yet, im still happy with it, and proud to own my first opposed

got the starter off today. alot easier than i thought it was going to be. pull 2 pins and the whole hood comes off in one piece, DIDNT have to pull engine, DIDNT have to pull shroud. i pulled the left head cap, and loostened the shroud up, and i was able to get at the starter just fine. got it off and tested, and its shot. it rattles and jumps when i put power to it, also real sluggish to spool up aswell. its drawing so much that the interior lights dimmed on my truck when i put power to it.
going to order a starter right now, that generic one off amazon.
only causalty is one weld that popped when i pulled the hood off. not knowing that it came off like it did, i was holding one of the side panels, and the hood fell off entirely, bending the panel, and snapping off the stud that was spot welded to it, no big deal really. i can tack it back on
**also- came up with a name for this beast. "Blockhead". what do you guys think, i think its rather fitting.. lol

>be me >come home >see box, and open- see starter >fight for over an hour to install starter >bust knuckle several times >become pissed off >finish installing starter >try to start mower >does not turn over fast enough to start >become livid > say "FKBeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeP it" >be pissed off, and still have paperweight,
so yeah. still not running, or turning over fast enough. it was going good once, then my jumpers started melting, and killed my other mower that i was jumping from. going to get brandy new jumpers and a battery. HOPEFULLY then it will go. also have to sort out the wiring

that hurt the ol' wallet. tack another 20 on for a carb kit and fuel pump...
oh well, our walkbehind mower is OOS for the time being due to a hand grenaded muffler, so this thing is going to support the mowing buisness for the remainder of the season. hopefully everything works out.

got all my parts installed, err.. tried to.. went to put in battery and cable, solenoid broke in half. went to put on belt, about 2 inches too short. havent tried the tube yet. installed fuel pump. installed carb kit- still wont run right or start like one would expect it to.
got the solenoid yesterday so im gonna go slap it together and possibly run to TSC later for another 2 belts, and possibly some wire and terminals. maybe i can get the PTO working

3 hours later, wiring is fixed. solenoid in, cables on, fixed the ignition. put the old belt on so maybe i can mow. PTO is working too. there is a red wire that goes through the ammeter and was supposed to be hooked up to the battery, but was just dangling. hooked it up to the hot side of the solenoid and away she blows. i want to get a new ammeter and a digital volt meter too so i can monitor things
possibly scooting up to TSC later to get a belt and more bolts

this GT has turned into quite the money pit. thrown 3 belts at it, didnt like any of them. bought it a battery, wont charge it, now sometime in the week, it sucked the battery dry, and it wont take a charge now. so, back to TSC, hopefully they warranty the battery. go get another belt and battery. getting kinda pissed off with this thing, all i want to do is mow my damn lawn, oh yeah. busted 2 knuckles and shaved a good bit of my pinkey off on it today.

That sounds like tons of fun!!!
Its a shame though, hopefully they will warranty it. Sometimes they can be a pain about stuff like that.

back in bidness! finally got a belt it likes, 100 inch huskee. was too long, but craftsman thunk of belt stretch, and put in an ADJUSTABLE IDLER! its the greatest thing ive seen since sliced bread. i took up about an inch of slack, so really, it only needs about a 99 inch belt, but either way, it works. TSC also exchanged the battery- no questions asked. sadly, they didnt have another 360CA battery, just ONE 420 and a bunch of lousy 280's. i figured i'd suck up the 3 bucks and get the 420. picked it up, felt kinda wet, got about 30 feet from the rack and i had acid pissing out of the vent holes, all over my hands. dug around and found another 420, same deal, leaky vents. idk if theyre rebuilt batteries or what, but i was NOT happy. so i got a 280, hoping it would be enough to fire up the opposed. i walked out of TSC with 32 bucks that i didnt have previous, so id say it was a good day.
got home, popped battery in and it fired right up. mowed today, no problems. need some rubber though, the turfs just spin. i know its not a FIX, more of a bandaid for now, but im going to get a battery tender, and just leave that on when im not using the tractor, so i have a full battery, since its still not charging for some reason.

scored a FREE diode! so that should be here some time next week! THEN.... oh boy, THEN we swap the executioners on... gotta fab up the front bumper aswell. and re-weld the stud back onto the side panel. i should be good to go now though. other than needing fuel.
