| Did a pulley swap on rearend of my mud mower. Went to a 3.5 in pulley. Runs a solid 17mph. But climbing up a hill she struggles any ideas. I want to still be able to take her off road but it don't seem strong enough now | |

| Not enough torque. These motors do fine with stock pulleys, but when you change the ratio (higher) it puts the motor under load more in high gear. So basically you need to do some slight motor mods to get some more torque. | What kinda engine/ transmission and pulley setup do you have? like AllisKid said, you need a little more torque, and minor engine mods will help you there. | |

| It has a 15.5 Briggs in it. The pulley on motor is stock(one of the doubles that run the drive and deck) the deck is gone. The tranny not sure it has the speed differential pulley on it. The new pulley is a 3.5. All I've done to the motor is a slight snorkel and a gov adjustment and a foot throttle tied to gov for a lil extra boost if needed | |

| Try tuning the carb a bit. It could possibly be running too lean, causing a loss of power. Also maybe clean the spark plug. | Or, even better, get a mikuni clone slider carb on eBay. they're like 30 bucks. Fearless did a video on making it fit. i think you just have to enlarge the mounting holes on the stock intake manifold to make it fit. | |

| oh another thing, it may not be lack of power (i have an 11 horse that i mud bog with, does just fine). with a 3.5 inch pulley on the back and that small stock front, it may be belt slip. i would change the rear to a 4 or 4.5 and do a 4 or 5 on the front. that should help. then to take it a step further, build a double pulley clutch | |

| True, most times the HP rating on the shroud doesn't define what the engine is capable of stock. I mean, the old DB walk behind tractors had 1.25hp, and they where ground engaging machines! I would check for belt slip like CQ said and just do a basic tune-up on the motor. | Ok. It's the belt running from the motor to the speed diff pulley. I've already went to smaller belt but still slipping up hill | |

| So this is on an MTD.....there is only so much you can do with one of these to keep them from slipping. AllisKidD21 runs the vari-drive on his MTD, so he may know something that I don't. I just use my MTD for mowing lol | |

| Did, you adjust any of the the linkages for the vari-drive after the pulley swap? | Yeah, sometimes the clutch pull rod needs to be adjusted. It may not be acting all the way through the gears like it should. Would it be possible for you to post some picture of the vari drive on the tractor? | The belt comes straight back to variable speed pulley (bottom part) then another belt from top back to trans with tension pulley in there. The drive pulley on front is stock and the belt is an inch shorter than stock. Original is a 35 in x 1/2 v belt. But you are thinking maybe clutch isn't letting it grip around pulley. Right | |

| Yeah. It could be the rear belt slipping, what size was the stock trans pulley? | Belts for the vari-drive setup is 5/8 inch. If you use a 1/2 belt it will not get all the gears and will slip in the high gear or the low gear, sorry forgot that part. | |
