Best bet is to check out heymow.com if youre going to race 'legit ' they have certain rules to abide by and certain classes and frown on people wanting to just make things fast.
If its for fun, id check em out and get ideas for tractors to build ( w/o signing up) .
Ive watched the site for a long time collecting info on tractors and how the racers build em for ideas on my personal mods.

Give yourself about 200-250$ and you should be good as long as you dont run hydralic brakes and check out golawnmowerracing.com for rules that apply to almra

The arc flywheel for the opposed is 350$!!! Lol
And if you buy that you'll need the heavy duty starter to 225$ And billet rods pistons, and do some polishing on the intake ports and minor grinding to have it all fit.
That's the engine alone.
So I'd say 1500-2500$ for a nice no rules racing mower.
