I got a cheap one found at a local auto parts store for about 35$ I like to run tachs

that depends, are you looking for an analog tach, or digital tach? you can get digital tach's for single cylinder engines off of ebay for next to nothing.

as for analog tach, you could look at a tachometer for a scooter like a Honda spree or something along those lines. Just make sure it's a 4 stroke. And a lot of times with those, you need a battery to run them because they draw a small amount of power.
